Young people must be eager to work and progress, not eager to become high-ranking officials.

President Ho Chi Minh saw the dangers when young people are given money, position and fame too early.

The 35th session of the Central Inspection Committee recently “named” another young cadre, extending the list of those who “grew up too early” and “fell too early”. That is Mr. Nguyen Ba Canh, member of the City Party Committee, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Mass Mobilization Committee of the Da Nang City Party Committee. This is also a painful lesson about the awareness of self-training and self-cultivation of cadres and party members, especially young cadres.

Ông Nguyễn Bá Cảnh - Thành ủy viên, phó Trưởng Ban thường trực Ban Dân vận Thành ủy Đà Nẵng.
Mr. Nguyen Ba Canh.

At 36 years old, Mr. Nguyen Ba Canh - the son of the late Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee - has many things in his hands. He was born into a traditional family, had the conditions to study abroad and then return to the city to work. At 30 years old, he became a youth leader and 5 years later, was appointed to the position of Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Da Nang City Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Committee. Mr. Canh is also a delegate of the 9th Da Nang City People's Council, term 2016 - 2021.

Before being proposed by the Central Inspection Committee to the Secretariat for consideration of disciplinary action, Mr. Nguyen Ba Canh was proposed by the Da Nang City Party Committee to be removed from all positions in the Party for violating the Law on Marriage and Family and violating things that Party members are not allowed to do.

“How can I know that I am happy when I am not suffering?” The late Professor Ton That Bach once said this when interacting with students when he was still alive. Thinking back, what the professor said was very reasonable for “family heirs” like Mr. Canh. Not having experienced war, not having “tumbled” in difficulties and challenges, not understanding the hardships and suffering of the people, combined with selfishness and premature enjoyment, he could not control himself.

Family tradition, better education conditions, smooth promotion path… are both advantages and “pressures” because people like Mr. Canh are under strict supervision of the people. But unfortunately, they are not aware of that, going against the people’s trust. It is even more disappointing that Mr. Canh is a youth leader but has set a “bad example” in ethics and lifestyle and he will not be able to “mobilize the masses” when he himself is not clean. The regulations on setting an example have been issued, 27 signs of degradation for people like Mr. Canh must have “memorized” them but still deliberately ignored them.

The lesson for Mr. Canh was obvious. They thought that everything was in their hands, but then they lost everything, returned to zero, took the first steps again and had nothing else, they had to prove themselves to regain the trust of the masses if they were truly capable. Some people felt sorry for them, but others agreed that: if from the beginning, they had taken steady steps, gone through difficulties and challenges, and cultivated themselves, then there would certainly not have been the consequences like today.

During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh taught: Young people must love to study, love to work, love to progress, not love to become high-ranking officials. That is, young people should spend time to improve themselves, to contribute to the Fatherland instead of having an ambition for power too soon. He saw the dangers when young people are given money, position and fame too soon. It is like a sleeping pill that makes them have illusions about themselves and lose themselves without knowing it.

Rejuvenating the cadres is an inevitable requirement. Resolution 7 of the 12th Central Committee has set out very specific figures for young cadres by 2030 to promote creativity, daring to think, daring to do, but rejuvenation must go hand in hand with careful screening and improving the resistance of young cadres to everyday temptations.

After all, morality is still the root as President Ho Chi Minh once taught "having talent but no morality is useless". It is true for the past, for today and for the future.
