Chinese general calls for sinking two US aircraft carriers in the East Sea, causing huge casualties
A Chinese "hawk" general believes that sinking two US aircraft carriers, causing about 10,000 casualties, will drive the US out of the East Sea and the Sea of Japan.
This statement was made by Rear Admiral, Major General La Vien, who is classified as a "hawk" in theChina's military and frequently made bellicose statements in a speech on the state of US-China relations at a defense conference held in Shenzhen, China in late December 2018.
According to Mr. La, Beijing's new ballistic missiles and anti-ship cruise missiles are now capable of sinking US aircraft carriers.
"What the US fears most is casualties," emphasized the Deputy Secretary General of the Chinese Military Science Association. Mr. La said that sinking a US airport would kill 5,000 people and that this number would need to be doubled when 'destroying' two US aircraft carriers at the same time.
"We will see how scared the US is," added the deputy head of the Chinese Academy of Military Sciences.
Also in this speech, Mr. La said that China should use its strength to attack weak points and any places where opponents fear being attacked.
Aircraft carrier "Ronald Reagan"
In recent years, the US has repeatedly voiced its refusal to recognize China’s unreasonable claims of sovereignty in the East Sea, which have been rejected by international courts. At the end of June 2018, the 97,000-ton super aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, carrying more than 70 aircraft, was the third aircraft carrier the US sent to patrol the East Sea since the beginning of 2018. The two aircraft carriers USS Carl Vinson and USS Theodore Roosevelt completed their patrol missions in February and April, respectively.
