Ukrainian general calls for “cutting off” Crimea
Former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Anatoly Lopata said that Ukraine should dig a canal on the border with Crimea, General Lopata expressed outrage at Russia's "dominance" in the Crimean waters.

"We can go to the sea from a completely different side, through a canal that cuts Crimea off from the mainland and turns it into an island. I like this idea," the retired general said in an interview with the Observer.
According to him, such a measure would allow Ukraine not only to gain access to the sea, but also to control its territory "from Mariupol and beyond."
General Lopata explained that the canal should be about 100 meters wide and "deep enough to allow high-tonnage ships to pass through".
