Part 2: The New Year Begins with Thunder

After a half-century hiatus, in recent years, the New Year Thunder Ceremony has been regularly held by the O Du people in the village. The recognition of this ritual as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage has revived the unique cultural features of this small ethnic group that were once thought to be forgotten.

Arriving at hamlet 8, Nghia Dong commune, from afar, one could hear the sweet, clear singing in unison from the free folk song class for teenagers and children taught by Meritorious Artist Ngo Tri Minh.
Thai script in Nghe An, the thunder welcoming ceremony of the O Du people and the art of sacrificial drums in Yen Thanh are recognized as national intangible cultural heritage.

Recently, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism signed a Decision on announcing the list of national intangible cultural heritages. Nghe An has 3 more heritages included in this list.
