Nghe An celebrates 10 years of Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam folk songs being recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity

On the evening of November 23, at Ho Chi Minh Square (Vinh City), Nghe An province solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam folk songs being recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

Attending the ceremony, on behalf of the central ministries, branches and Military Region 4, there were comrades: Ta Quang Dong - Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Major General Nguyen Ngoc Ha - Deputy Commander of Military Region 4.

Delegates from neighboring provinces included Mr. Le Ngoc Chau - Vice Chairman of Ha Tinh Provincial People's Committee; and representatives of departments and branches of the following provinces and cities: Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Tinh, Thanh Hoa, Hung Yen, Dong Nai, Dien Bien, Khanh Hoa, Dak Lak, Bac Lieu.

The leaders of Nghe An province included comrades: Nguyen Duc Trung - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Hoang Nghia Hieu - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; together with comrades in the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee; Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, leaders of departments, branches, and localities.

Vi and Giam folk songs are increasingly spreading domestically and internationally.

On November 27, 2014, Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam folk songs were recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity. This is an important milestone in preserving and promoting the value of Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam folk songs, raising the visibility of the domestic and international community towards a heritage rich in the identity of a cultural region.

In the minds of Nghe Tinh people, Vi and Giam folk songs always hold an important position, becoming a symbol of the land and people here. Everywhere on this land, everywhere is imbued with the image of the folk songs and Vi tunes of our ancestors, to create a source of nourishment for the character and soul of each generation of Nghe people.

Delivering a speech at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Bui Dinh Long emphasized that in the 10-year journey of Vi and Giam folk songs being honored by UNESCO, the government and people of Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces have joined hands, contributing to the spread of their homeland's heritage domestically and internationally.

Many important mechanisms and policies have been issued and implemented as a basis for protecting and promoting the value, affirming the position and influence of Vi and Giam folk songs in the community.

To achieve the results as today, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Bui Dinh Long, on behalf of the provincial leaders, expressed gratitude to the artisans and artists - the "soul keepers" of the heritage.

Nghe An province would also like to express its deep gratitude to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; ministries, branches, central agencies, managers, researchers, the people of Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces and the Nghe community at home and abroad.

Emphasizing that the 10-year journey is not long, besides the successes, in reality there are still goals that have not been achieved, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Bui Dinh Long said that, in order for Vi and Giam folk songs to be worthy of the status of intangible cultural heritage representing humanity, the government and people of Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces will continue to implement the action program to protect and promote the value of Vi and Giam folk songs.

In addition, overcome difficulties and limitations; create conditions for artisans and the community to preserve, pass on and spread love for heritage; increase investment in resources, gradually build Vi and Giam folk songs into a typical tourism product of Nghe An, invest in building a brand for Vi and Giam folk songs and a local tourism brand associated with Vi and Giam folk songs.

"In this journey, Nghe An province hopes to continue to receive support and companionship from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, ministries, departments and central branches" - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Bui Dinh Long hopes and emphasizes that the government and people of Nghe An - Ha Tinh provinces will continue to promote their roles and responsibilities, with the spirit of pride in spreading the heritage of their homeland, so that Vi and Giam folk songs can reach many new lands, integrate and converge with the quintessence of national culture.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong emphasized that Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam folk songs being recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity is not only the pride of the people of Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces but also the honor of the whole country. Over the past 10 years, Vi and Giam folk songs have been proving their vitality and strong influence regardless of space and time.

Emphasizing that the work of preserving and promoting the value of cultural heritage is to contribute to preserving the soul of the nation, the Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that preserving and promoting the value of heritage recognized by UNESCO is both an honor and pride, but at the same time, it is also a responsibility and a commitment not only of the two provinces: Nghe An - Ha Tinh but also of the nation to UNESCO.

In order for Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam folk songs to truly spread and last forever, the Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism suggested that Nghe An province be proactive, active, and coordinate better with Ha Tinh province and central ministries, branches, relevant agencies, communities and people nationwide to effectively implement the national action program to protect and promote the value of this intangible cultural heritage.

In particular, it is necessary to continue promoting propaganda and education activities to raise awareness and responsibility of the entire political system and society, especially the young generation, for protecting and promoting the cultural heritage values ​​of Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam folk songs.

On this occasion, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism decided to award Certificates of Merit to 5 collectives and 5 individuals for their outstanding contributions to the work of preserving and promoting the value of Vi and Giam folk song heritage in the period 2014-2024.

The Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee decided to award Certificates of Merit to 10 collectives and 10 individuals of Nghe An province for their outstanding contributions to the work of preserving and promoting the value of Vi and Giam folk song heritage in the period 2014-2024.

At the ceremony, delegates, people and tourists enjoyed the art program: "Vi, Giam, the soul of the countryside shines". The program was performed by artists from Nghe An Traditional Arts Center, Ha Tinh Dance Arts Center, Bac Ninh Art Troupe, Bac Lieu Art Troupe, and Dak Lak Art Troupe.

The art program consists of 3 chapters: Chapter 1: Soul of the countryside; Chapter 2: Vi and Giam songs nurture talents; Chapter 3: Convergence and brilliance. The art program is the crystallization of the intelligence, soul, and spirit of Nghe Tinh people through the cultural heritage of Vi and Giam folk songs, serving as the foundation and material for creating modern cultural values.
