Nghe An athlete wins Southeast Asian Youth Chess Championship

(Baonghean.vn) - At 4:00 p.m. on June 25, Vietnam time, athlete Tran Thi Diem Quynh of the Vietnamese chess team stepped up to the podium to receive the Gold Medal in the women's standard chess event at the 2017 East Asian Chess Tournament for Age Groups, held in Mongolia.

By winning the gold medal in the women's standard chess event, Diem Quynh was awarded the title of WFM (Woman FIDE Master).

Born in 2001 in a family with a tradition of studiousness in Vinh City, Nghe An Province, since 2008, when she was only 7 years old, Diem Quynh studied chess at the Viet Duc Children's Cultural House. Here, Diem Quynh quickly revealed her talent and was selected to join the chess team of the Provincial Sports Training and Coaching Center.

After winning many high achievements in domestic tournaments, this year, Diem Quynh was called to the Vietnamese youth chess team to participate in the 2017 East Asia Age Chess Tournament.

By winning the gold medal in the standard chess event, Diem Quynh has contributed to the collection of gold medals of the Vietnamese chess team at this tournament to 20. In the end, the Vietnamese youth chess team with 86 players won a total of 20 gold medals, 20 silver medals, 12 bronze medals, ranking second overall, and first in the Southeast Asia region alone.
