Violation of privacy from the perspective of female law students

(Baonghean.vn)- After many private incidents of famous people were exposed, many concerns have been raised about people's privacy while specific legal regulations are still lacking in Vietnam. Some of the violations that are happening are:

Posting someone else's profile online

The memoir “Thuong Tin - a stormy life” has just been released and has become the subject of many gossips about the love stories of the “once famous” star with many women. Not to mention the cultural aspect as well as the purpose of the publisher, but from a legal perspective, it certainly cannot be said to be “problematic”.

But which agency will handle it, which basis will handle it, I'm afraid there are still many things to discuss, the most obvious thing is that there are "legal loopholes" here. That's not to mention, there have been many famous people, even responsible people, who have had their childhood photos or ID photos posted with comments about their looks, their private lives, and carefree "comments" about them.

Inadvertently, not only is a person's private information posted publicly, but it also becomes a media topic that can offend others.

There is quite a bit of other information in individuals' profiles that is also being (being) shared publicly in the press, and especially on social networks.

Posting report cards publicly at schools

Another example of privacy violations is that many schools now post their report cards in public places. Not only that, schools also post them on the Internet or read each student’s score in the classroom. Worse still, to distinguish students with the same last name and first name, schools often post their personal information, such as date of birth, hometown, student ID number or class.

For students with high scores, it may not have much of an impact, but for students with low scores or those who fail their exams, there will be psychological problems. But regardless of whether the consequences are good or bad for students, posting personal information is a sign of violating their personal rights. In many countries around the world, scores are given to each person individually, and no one knows who their score is.

Typically, in a country with a developed legal system like the US, almost all schools here must apply the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) - strictly prohibiting all acts of disclosing any information about scores or achievements and other private information of students to anyone except the student and their parents (if the student is under 18 years old).

Posting pictures of children online

Parents are naturally very proud of their children and want to capture every moment of their growth. But have you ever wondered: When our children grow up, will they be comfortable with their nude photos, or photos in diapers or swimsuits being posted online and all their friends can see them?

If we are not allowed to post private photos of adults online, why should we have the right to do the same to our children? Is it possible that children are not yet able to recognize and defend themselves against privacy violations, so we can do whatever we want?

Ultimately, it’s not just about posting pictures of your kids online, but rather how their safety and privacy are protected. Experts say many parents are posting pictures of their kids on social media without checking their privacy settings properly, meaning the chances of these photos falling into the wrong hands are high.

Publicizing other people's privacy

Exploiting private stories, especially other people's love, sex and financial stories, is one of the "tricks" to seek attention of many online newspapers and social networking sites today.

Because of those articles, the impotence of a husband or the adultery of a wife can be made public to the whole society and the consequences are extremely dangerous psychological burdens. Their reputation and honor are seriously damaged and it is very difficult for them to escape from social pressure, which can be the cause of negative behaviors in society.

Vietnam has integrated deeply and comprehensively, so it is time to have a legal corridor so that citizens are fully protected in their privacy rights in the information explosion era. Through some of the above examples, it shows that the reality of life is posing the need for specific legal regulations on privacy rights to ensure the safety of the people and society.
