Vietnam sets record of welcoming 10 million international visitors

Vietnam tourism is expected to reach 10 million international visitors in 2016, an increase of 2 million compared to last year.

According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, Vietnam will welcome its 10 millionth tourist on December 25 at Phu Quoc International Airport. This lucky visitor is a British national. Along with the 9,999,999th tourist (from Germany) and the 10,000,001st (from Sweden), all three will receive commemorative medals and souvenirs from tourism industry leaders.

Compared to 2015, the number of international visitors this year increased by 25% and had the highest absolute growth rate in a year (2 million arrivals) ever. In particular, visitors from Northeast Asia and Western Europe had strong growth.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, General Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, assessed that 2016 was a year of many important events for the tourism industry. For the first time, the Government organized a National Conference on Tourism Development in Hoi An City; the Government continued the visa exemption policy for 5 Western European countries (UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain)...

With the application of electronic visas from February 1, 2017, Vietnam tourism aims to welcome 11.5 million international visitors, 66 million domestic visitors next year, with total revenue from tourists reaching 460 trillion VND. The tourism industry strives to basically become a key economic sector by 2020.
