Vietnam won two Gold Medals at the International Chemistry Olympiad
All four Vietnamese contestants won prizes, including two gold and two silver; in which Tran Ba Tan was awarded the contestant with the perfect score in the practical part.
On July 30, the Department of Quality Management (Ministry of Education and Training) announced that Tran Ba Tan (Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted) and Nguyen Van Chi Nguyen (Lam Son High School for the Gifted, Thanh Hoa) won Gold Medals at the International Chemistry Olympiad, held in France.
Tran Ba Tan had the fourth highest score in the exam (95.47/100), and was awarded the prize for the candidate with the highest practical score with 40/40. This is the first time a Vietnamese candidate has achieved a perfect score in the practical exam in the International Chemistry Olympiad.
The remaining two students who won Silver Medals were Nguyen Dinh Hoang (Nguyen Tat Thanh High School for the Gifted, Yen Bai) and Pham Thanh Lam (Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Nam Dinh).
With this achievement, Vietnam ranked 5th overall, after China, South Korea, Russia and the US.

Compared to 2018, the results of the Chemistry Olympiad team this year are better. Last year, Vietnam only won 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze medal.
"The results confirm the progress of the Chemistry delegation, and at the same time show positive changes in training in practical and experimental subjects - which is not yet our country's strength compared to advanced countries in the world," said a representative of the Department of Quality Management.
The 51st International Chemistry Olympiad is being held in France with the participation of more than 300 contestants from 80 countries and territories. The Ministry of Education and Training will welcome the delegation and congratulate them on their achievements on the morning of July 31.
