Vietnam is determined to protect its sovereignty in the East Sea established in UNCLOS 1982 by peaceful means, on the basis of international law.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang.

Responding to a reporter's question about Vietnam's measures taken after the Haiyang 8 survey ship group violated Vietnam's exclusive economic zone and continental shelf in the southern part of the East Sea, Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang stated on July 25:

"We have mentioned this serious incident many times in previous statements. As we have repeatedly affirmed, Vietnam is determined and persistent in protecting its sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction established in the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982) by peaceful means, on the basis of international law."

According to Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang, with the above goal in mind, Vietnam has had many appropriate forms of diplomatic communication, handed over diplomatic notes of protest to China, and requested China to immediately withdraw from Vietnam's exclusive economic zone. Vietnam's functional forces have deployed appropriate and legal measures.

"Maintaining peace, stability and freedom of navigation and aviation, upholding the rule of law, respecting sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction of nations as established in UNCLOS 1982 are the common interests and responsibilities of countries and the international community. Vietnam welcomes and stands ready to join efforts with countries and the international community to contribute to the above-mentioned goals, for peace, stability, cooperation and development of all countries in the region and the world," Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang emphasized./.
