The Indian government has approved the sale of sonar to Vietnam and wants to convince Vietnam to consider purchasing the system.

According to Sputnik news agency, the New Delhi government has agreed to approve the country's navy to export anti-submarine sonar systems to countries in Southeast Asia and Latin America, including Vietnam.

Countries in East Asia and Latin America are in need of enhanced coastal surveillance and anti-submarine warfare capabilities. The sonar system is being exported by India for installation on small patrol vessels to carry out coastal reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare missions.

This Sonar system was researched and manufactured by the Indian Navy based on the Russian Pauk prototype but with many valuable improvements.

This sonar is built on the latest hardware, technology and advanced, modern signal processing algorithms, it can detect many different sound wave sources, and simultaneously classify and track targets both above and below the water surface in active and passive modes.

How the Sonar system works: A sonar wave is sent down into the water, hits the target and reflects back to help determine the exact location, speed and direction of the target.

According to Sputnik, India is currently actively negotiating with Vietnam and the Philippines, hoping to convince the two countries to consider purchasing this system to strengthen their naval power in maritime defense operations.

In recent times, Vietnam and India have negotiated many times to buy and sell many modern military equipment, such as the world's fastest anti-ship cruise missile BrahMos.

In addition, in July this year, the two countries also discussed the sale of Varunastra heavy-duty torpedoes made in India to be installed on Vietnam's anti-submarine frigates.

Besides arms trading, Vietnam and India are cooperating in training Kilo submarine sailors and Su-30MK2 fighter pilots for Vietnam.

Last year, India sold three HMS-X2 sonar systems to Myanmar.

This move by India is believed to be aimed at enhancing the reputation of its sonar products in the international arms market, while helping related countries improve their anti-submarine warfare capabilities, as it can detect modern submarines of other countries, including Chinese submarines.

In recent years, the Chinese Navy's submarine force has continuously increased its activities in the East Sea. Its nuclear submarines have repeatedly entered the Indian Ocean, causing shock and pressure on the Indian Navy, forcing the country to continuously increase the construction of submarines and anti-submarine ships.
