Vietnam is among the countries with the highest growth rate in alcohol consumption.
A report released by the Global Drug Survey shows that Vietnam is among the countries with the highest growth rate in alcohol consumption.
The Global Drug Survey studied the number of binge drinking episodes experienced by people around the world in 2018, based on data from nearly 124,000 volunteers from more than 30 countries.
The results showed that on average, each person in the world got drunk 33 times in 2018. The British got drunk the most, with 51 times, followed by Americans (50 times), Canadians (48 times), and Australians (47 times). Chileans got drunk the least, with an average of 16 times over the 12 months.
Vietnam is not among the countries surveyed.
Adam Winstock, an addiction psychiatrist and founder of the Drug Survey, said Britons drink too much and too often. He advised that not only Britons but anyone who drinks alcohol should consider cutting back to protect their health.

Also in May, a study in The Lancet found that from 1990 to 2017, the world's per capita alcohol consumption increased by 0.7 liters to 6.5 liters. By 2030, this figure is expected to reach 7.6 liters.
According to this study, Vietnam is among the countries with the highest growth rate in alcohol consumption, nearly 90% in the 7 years since 2010. In 2017, on average, each Vietnamese person drank nearly 9 liters of alcohol.
In a report published in 2018, the World Health Organization (WHO) also assessed that Vietnamese people's alcohol and beer consumption is high compared to other countries in the region. It is estimated that on average, each Vietnamese person over 15 years old consumes 8.3 liters of pure alcohol in a year, more than the Chinese and 4 times more than the Singaporeans.
