Vietnam deploys new therapy to treat cancer
Each cancer patient will have 10-30ml of blood taken to isolate immune cells, culture them in a special environment and then inject them back into the body to create an immune barrier.
This is an immune cell therapy in cancer treatment transferred from Japan. Currently, a group of scientists from Hanoi Medical University are applying this therapy.
Prof. Dr. Ta Thanh Van, Head of the cooperation project, Vice President of Hanoi Medical University, said that since 2013, immune cell therapy has been officially recognized by Japan as a supportive cancer treatment method.

Cellular immunotherapy will help the body create a strong enough immune barrier to fight cancer cells. |
According to Professor Van, normally when cancer cells appear, the body will detect them and create immune responses, especially producing humoral antibodies and cellular antibodies to attack cancer cells. But when the immune system is out of balance, cancer cells will grow stronger.
Therefore, applying immune cell therapy will help the body restore immune balance, re-establish and enhance the number and function of immune cells to increase the ability to destroy cancer cells.
With this therapy, 10-30 ml of peripheral blood will be taken from the patient to isolate immune cells, culture and activate the specialized functions of these cells in a special environment.
Once sufficient in number and with the desired functions, immune cells will be transferred back into the patient's body, creating a strong enough immune cell barrier against cancer cells.
In Vietnam, initially with the direct assistance of Japanese experts, Hanoi Medical University has isolated, cultured and activated immune cells of a number of cancer patients with very good results, the number of cells after culture meets the requirements of quantity and quality (93-99%).
This method has been applied in Japan for the past 10 years at a number of special medical facilities with about 10,000 patients with kidney, lung, liver, stomach cancer... Most of whom are in the late stages.
As a result, depending on the stage of the disease and the type of cancer, this method helps 6% of patients control the disease, reduce or eliminate tumors (about 6%), 54% help improve the quality of life when the clinical condition is improved: patients can sleep, do not have pain, do not have to use painkillers... while still allowing combination with other traditional cancer treatments such as surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy.
To date, no complications or side effects have been recorded when applying this therapy.
