Wife left, husband broke 4 month old son's leg because he cried and wouldn't sleep

District 9 People's Court (HCMC) has just opened the first instance trial of Chau Minh Tien (24 years old, residing in District 9, HCMC) for the crime of "Intentional injury”. The victim that Tien tortured was his son.
According to the indictment, in mid-2016, Tien and Ms. Nguyen Hong Tim (born 2000) lived together as husband and wife in District 9, Ho Chi Minh City and had 2 children together.

K. is being treated at the hospital.

Due to a conflict, on December 26, 2019, Ms. Tim took her baby, Chau Minh K. (only 4 months old), back to her mother's house to live. On the evening of February 3, Ms. Tim's grandmother brought K. back to Tien.

When he saw his child had symptoms of hiccups, difficulty breathing, and a purple face, Tien carried him to his biological father's house to take him to the emergency room.

During the emergency, the doctors saw that K. showed signs of beingviolenceshould report to Ben Nghe Ward Police (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City). The examination results showed that K. suffered multiple injuries, a broken left femur, and a disability of up to 37%. Tien confessed to the incident.

At the trial, the defendant Tien honestly confessed to his crime. Regarding the reason for his inhumane behavior, Tien said that he was tired after work, had been drinking, and while drunk, he was angry about his wife leaving and baby K. crying, so he beat his child.

Considering that the defendant's behavior is particularly serious and directinvasionto the health of children. The defendant is fully aware of his actions, only because he was angry with his wife that he beat his own child, therefore, he needs to be severely punished. After consideration, the panel of judges decided to sentence the defendant to 6 years and 6 months in prison.
