Wife of former Chongqing Party Secretary Bo Xilai petitioned to have death sentence commuted

Ms. Gu Kailai - wife of famous figure Bo Xilai, has just been petitioned to have her death sentence commuted to life imprisonment.

Today (December 14), the Beijing High People's Court, China, issued a statement saying that Gu Kailai, wife of former Chongqing Party Secretary Bo Xilai, was recommended to be exempted from the death penalty.

Previously, in August 2012, Ms. Bo Gu Kailai was sentenced to death by the Hefei City Intermediate Court, Anhui Province, China, for the crime of murdering British businessman Neil Heywood, but the sentence was suspended for 2 years.

According to the announcement of the Beijing Higher People's Court, during the suspension of the death penalty, Bo Gu Kailai complied with prison discipline, fulfilled her labor obligations, and was commended three times.

Based on the regulations, it is recommended to reduce the sentence of Ms. Bo Gu Kailai from the death penalty to life imprisonment.

Ms. Gu Kailai was born in 1958 and is the wife of former Politburo member and Chongqing Party Secretary Bo Xilai.

Bo Xilai was once a famous figure with great prospects for advancement in Chinese politics, but after his confidant, former Chongqing Police Chief Wang Lijun, sought asylum at the US Consulate General in Chongqing, Bo Xilai's political future completely collapsed.

Afterwards, Mr. Bo Xilai was stripped of all party and government positions, brought to trial and sentenced to life in prison for many crimes such as bribery, corruption and abuse of power./.
