Mr. Nam lamented: "My family has 120 perennial rose trees, each year they harvest 3-4 tons of fruit, which has been the crop that has supported the whole family for many years. However, this year the rose crop has suffered a serious failure, at present the family has only harvested 200 kg, the output has decreased by 70% compared to previous years...".

Not only Mr. Nam's family, but also the common situation of nearly 1,000 households with persimmons in Nam Anh commune. According to the people, this year the persimmon yield of the whole commune has decreased significantly, even some trees that last year yielded 1-2 quintals of fruit now yield only a maximum of 100 kg.
Not only that, the persimmons that can be harvested are not of the same quality as previous years. Most of the persimmons this year are small in size and have a bland sweet taste. Some of the fruits have been stung by insects, causing them to rot on the tree and cannot be harvested.

According to local people, the main reason for the worst persimmon crop failure in many years is the weather. At the beginning of this year, heavy spring rains caused persimmon trees to flower poorly, then from April to August this year, there was a widespread drought, with no rain, which affected the growth of persimmon trees. In addition, the appearance of some animals such as birds, insects... caused many fruits to wither and rot on the tree before they were ready to be harvested.

The biggest consolation for persimmon growers right now is that the price of persimmons has nearly doubled compared to previous years. If in 2019, persimmons cost 20,000 - 25,000 VND/kg, now it has reached 35,000 VND/kg.

The whole commune has about 80 hectares of persimmons, planted throughout the hamlets, most of which are concentrated on the slopes of Dai Hue mountain. Although it is a crop with high economic value and is known to many people, this year the persimmon crop failed. If in previous years, the total output of the commune was estimated at 700 tons of persimmons, now it is only about 100 tons. Saving persimmons is also very difficult because most of these are natural rose roots, with many years of age, so their resistance has also weakened over time.
Currently, the locality is consulting with plant experts to find a way to save the rose garden. In addition, some households have invested in machinery for deep processing, helping to increase the value of roses and avoid losses due to the decreasing rose output./.
