It is worth mentioning that in April 2016, Hong was sentenced by the Hoang Mai Town People's Court to 9 months of suspended imprisonment for property theft.

Accordingly, on August 10, 2016, Hong rode a motorbike to Quynh Phuong ward, Hoang Mai town. Passing by the house of Ms. Hoang Thi Ngoan (born in 1951), knowing that Ms. Ngoan lived alone, was not at home, the gate was not locked, Hong sneaked into Ms. Ngoan's house, opened the wooden cabinet and stole 1 gold necklace, 2 taels of gold, 1 mobile phone and 55,000,000 VND in cash. When Ms. Ngoan returned home, she discovered that all of the above assets had been stolen, so she immediately reported it to the Quynh Phuong ward police and Hoang Mai town police.

Upon receiving the report, the town police leaders assigned the General Investigation Police Team to deploy a plan to coordinate with the Quynh Phuong ward police to investigate, clarify, and arrest the subject. Using professional measures, on August 10, the General Investigation Police Team investigated, clarified, and arrested Tran Thi Hong, residing in Mai Hung ward, Hoang Mai town, Nghe An province, for the act of property theft.

At the investigation agency, Hong confessed that when he discovered that Mrs. Ngoan was not at home, he entered the house, opened the cabinet, and took all the above assets. Immediately after that, the Investigation Police Agency of Hoang Mai Town conducted a search of Tran Thi Hong's residence and seized some assets obtained from crime. The Investigation Police Agency of Hoang Mai Town initiated a case and prosecuted Tran Thi Hong for theft of property.

Because the defendant is raising a child under 9 months old, Hong was released on bail but prohibited from leaving the locality. It is known that at the end of 2015, Hong broke into a house and stole over 4 million VND in cash. In April 2016, Hong was sentenced to 9 months in prison with a suspended sentence by the Town People's Court. While serving the non-custodial reform sentence, Hong continued to commit the theft of Ms. Ngoan's gold coins, totaling over 80 million VND. The case is still under investigation.
