Society requires effort from teachers, teaching requires empathy.
(Baonghean.vn) - "There is no bronze statue, no stone stele, nothing is heroic, but fulfilling one's duty is heroic"! That is the statement that President Ho Chi Minh dedicated to the teaching profession.
He also said, “Without teachers, there is no education. Without education, there is no talk of economic and cultural development.” On Teachers’ Day, thinking back to the teachings of the great teacher Ho Chi Minh on June 12, 1956, I feel a bit sad. More than 60 years since Uncle Ho’s message, where has the position of teachers been and is now? How many “heroes” have appeared?
It seems that society has never “taken its eyes off” teachers. Every move is analyzed by “social cameras” under strict standards labeled as exemplary. Anyone can speak fluently about the great role of teachers in social life, of course no one is foolish enough to slander it. Sentences such as: “One word from a teacher is worth half a word from a teacher”; “Without a teacher, you will never succeed” or “If you want to cross the bridge, build the bridge/ If you want your children to be good at reading, love the teacher” are densely displayed on wall newspapers, on television, in print newspapers and are not lacking in countless welcoming speeches.
However, between slogans and actions there is still a gap that makes us shudder with fear that apathy may slip through. On the podiums, teachers are still diligently teaching, far away in the high mountains, many contract teachers are still quietly carrying letters back to their villages in a state of fear of staff reduction! It is true that life cannot be as rhyming as the teachings, but does life necessarily have to be full of challenges for teachers to overcome? Society requires teachers to be creative, but is society open enough to that demand?
Is the story of the “shorts professor” carrying a suitcase back to his country, the story of the council throwing stones at a teacher who has been pursuing “technology education books” for 40 years vivid enough for us to imagine a corner of the attitude picture? We have the right to spit on the perverts in the teacher’s uniform, we have the right to condemn the teachers who abuse their students with strange punishments. But is it right for a teacher to force a student to kneel down, and for a parent to force a teacher to kneel in front of a student in retaliation? No, that is not punishment, that is insult! Just because of a few individuals, we compromise with the act of defaming the image of all teachers? Don’t joke, history has enough data to clearly and fairly prove that the thousand-year development process of humanity is closely linked to the thousand-year development process of education.
Whether a society prospers or declines, progresses or declines depends on the development of education that it applies. Tolerating a corrupt education is the quickest way to send a regime to hell. Fostering a progressive education is the best way to reach the shore of happiness. Education is the litmus test of human civilization. Don't forget that we are living in a planet that once had great teachers like Confucius, Aristotle or Albert Einstein... It would be a loss to our country's history if there had never been teachers like Chu Van An, Nguyen Binh Khiem, Le Quy Don, "La Son Phu Tu" Nguyen Thiep... The history of the nation will forever mention the names of great teachers like Ho Chi Minh, Vo Nguyen Giap, but history will never forget the female teachers who were hiding in plastic bags to go to school. Yes, no matter where, no matter what social regime, teachers are still examples worthy of honor and respect. Maybe you and I have not contributed to clarifying those examples, but we should not, are not allowed to make them dirty.
We demand a lot from teachers, but how much are we giving them? Why is the teaching profession still not on the list of priority choices for students? Why are the gates of teacher training colleges still indifferent to talents? When will teachers stop worrying about food and clothing to wholeheartedly devote themselves to the career of educating people? These are not just questions of a day, not just of one person. Right? If we are indebted to teachers, it means we are indebted to the future. Society demands effort from the teaching profession, of course. The teaching profession demands sympathy from society, why not?
