Since its establishment (February 26, 1953), Ky Son commune was one of three localities separated from Thanh Son commune, Anh Son district. On April 19, 1963, the Government Council issued Decision No. 52/CP to establish Tan Ky district. At that time, Ky Son commune, Tan Ky district included Ky Son commune, Ky Tan commune, Tan Ky town and a part of Tan Huong commune today.
In the early days of establishment, the physical facilities and technical infrastructure serving the people of Ky Son commune were almost insignificant, all at a low starting point. The people's travel conditions were still difficult. From 1965 to 1975, the Party Committee and people of Ky Son steadfastly fought against the destructive war of the American imperialists, building a rear base to support the front line in the South.
