Trial of husband who used homemade gun to shoot wife

(Baonghean.vn)- On December 30, the Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial to try the case of murder, illegal manufacture and possession of military weapons against Xeo Pho Bun (born 1963), residing in Bao Thang commune, Ky Son district.

According to the indictment, on the afternoon of March 16, 2015, after drinking alcohol, Xeo Pho Bun went to the bedroom but could not sleep because of the noise. Bun took the gun and walked back to the kitchen, asking Xeo Me Bun's wife why she did not tell the children to be quiet so Bun could sleep. Mrs. Xeo Pho Bun "argued" back. Angry that his wife dared to argue with him, Xeo Pho Bun pointed the homemade gun at his wife and pulled the trigger, shooting her in the stomach at close range.

Injured, Xeo Me Bun ran out of the kitchen, called her son for help and was taken to the hospital. Meanwhile, Xeo Pho Bun took the gun and went back to the bedroom.

On March 17, 2015, Ky Son District Police issued an emergency arrest warrant for Xeo Pho Bun. Authorities determined that Xeo Pho Bun's homemade gun had similar features and lethality to a military weapon. Xeo Pho Bun was prosecuted for murder and illegal manufacture and possession of military weapons.

At the trial, Xeo Pho Bun confessed his crime. It was found that during his work (Xeo Pho Bun was the Chairman of the People's Committee of Bao Thang Commune from 2005 to 2010), the defendant had contributed to many cases, contributing to ensuring security and order in the locality.

The victim also earnestly asked for a lighter sentence, so the panel sentenced the defendant to 3 years and 6 months in prison for murder and 1 year in prison for illegally manufacturing and possessing military weapons. Xeo Pho Bun must serve a sentence of 4 years and 6 months in prison for both crimes.
