Heartbreaking scene of rice 'turning green' just after ripening in the field

(Baonghean.vn) - Two consecutive heavy rains poured down on the fields, causing many summer-autumn rice fields of Nghi Loc farmers to sprout green shoots in the fields when they were just ripe. Up to this point, the entire Nghi Loc district has only harvested nearly 25% of the area, many fields have been knocked down by the rain and wind.

Many areas of broken rice were harvested with the policy of "green house is better than ripe field".

But after a few days of prolonged rain, unable to dry, the rice sprouted and turned green.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Chinh - Hamlet 7 - Nghi Dien commune expected her summer-autumn yield to reach 3.5 quintals/sao, but now her heart is restless when 5 sao of rice, which was about to be harvested, has collapsed into the water.

With a sad voice, she sadly said: "My family produces 8 sao. When it was time to harvest, there was a heavy rain and the rice fell down. If we don't harvest it, the rice will sprout in the field. When we harvest it, we don't know where to dry it. We have to temporarily tie each clump together and wait for the sun to shine. We don't know what else to do. But in many places, the rice has sprouted green just after it is fully ripe."

For Mrs. Nguyen Thi Doan's family - Hamlet 4, Nghi Hoa commune, they chose to harvest because the rice fields were too deep, so the rice had broken and lay flat under the water and could not be raised. Therefore, taking advantage of the clear weather, her family mobilized all the manpower to harvest the summer-autumn rice fields.

However, after harvesting, there was heavy rain so it was impossible to dry the rice, and it sprouted after 3 days. Ms. Doan shared: "This year, my family produced 7 sao, all of which were submerged in water. My family quickly harvested. As soon as we brought the rice home, it rained heavily for several days. Now the harvested rice has sprouted. This rice can only be used as animal feed...".

The germinated rice fields are only salvaged for animal feed.

Many families took advantage of the opportunity to build rice fields out of floodwaters to wait for harvest after the rain.

In Nghi Loc, about 1,200 hectares of rice were damaged in the two recent storms. Mr. Dong Thanh Binh - Deputy Head of the District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said: "Currently, the district is directing people to clear the flow and drain the flooded summer-autumn rice area, and at the same time rebuild the damaged rice area. When the weather is better, combine harvesters will be used to quickly harvest the remaining area."
