(Baonghean.vn) - In the coming time, the provincial authorities will continue to strengthen monitoring, supervision and strict handling of organizations and individuals who take advantage of social networks to commit illegal acts.

Voters in Hung Nguyen town, Hung Nguyen district believe that the Law on Cyber Security has been issued and taken effect since January 1, 2019, but currently, social networking sites (Facebook...) are still flooded with negative information, bad advertisements, false propaganda, and opposition from hostile forces. It is recommended that stricter management be implemented to limit these negative effects.

Regarding this issue, the Department of Information and Communications would like to respond as follows:

The country currently has 935 licensed social networks (domestic) with about 130 million registered accounts; 3 cross-border social networks including: Facebook (70 million accounts), Youtube (60 million accounts), TikTok (45 million accounts); Nghe An has 1 licensed social network (ktsvn.com.vn), in addition, there are 2 social networks specializing in providing information about Nghe An and established by Nghe An people but not headquartered in Nghe An (nguoinghe.vn and songlamplus.vn).

In recent times, besides the benefits that social networks bring to people, social networks also bring many negative consequences to society such as: Disclosing information in the list of state secrets, personal privacy secrets; Posting one-sided information, false information, slander, defamation, insulting the reputation and honor of organizations and individuals...

Recognizing the negative aspects of social networks, in recent years, the provincial authorities have increased the use of many measures to limit negativity, such as: Publishing publications to identify bad and toxic information on cyberspace; Propagating and guiding people to receive and use information on the cyber environment in accordance with legal regulations; strictly handling individuals and organizations that take advantage of social networks to commit illegal acts (from 2020 to present, we have handled: 5 electronic information sites; stopped the operation of 6 general electronic information sites; over 200 individuals).

Although management has been strengthened, there are still websites and personal information pages that post and broadcast bad, toxic, and illegal information on the internet.

The reason why bad, toxic, and illegal information still exists is because these websites use servers located abroad and personal information pages are set up through cross-border social networks such as Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok. To handle and prevent this information, provincial authorities need a lot of time and close coordination with central authorities, however, at present, it is not possible to completely handle this information. This difficulty is not only faced by Vietnam but also other countries in the world and are also having to research solutions to manage it.

In the coming time, the provincial authorities will continue to strengthen monitoring, supervision and strict handling of organizations and individuals who take advantage of social networks to commit illegal acts. At the same time, they will closely coordinate with central agencies to study and apply more effective management solutions.
