Two cases of spreading news about late marriage will be fined
D.T (born in 1996) and N.D (born in 1995) were punished by authorities for spreading rumors that late marriage would result in fines.
On June 3, My Duc District Police (Hanoi) said that through monitoring the situation on cyberspace, the District Police Security Team discovered a number of Facebook accounts sharing the content "Prime Minister: Official fine of 5-10 million VND for men and women who marry late after the age of 30". This is false information causing confusion for many people.
In fact, the Government only issued a Decision approving the “Program to adjust birth rates to suit regions and groups by 2030”, in which it encourages men and women to get married before the age of 30 and have children early. There is absolutely no such thing as men and women who get married after the age of 30 will be fined from 5-10 million VND as shared information.
Conducting verification, the My Duc District Police Security Team identified and clarified that the owners of the above Facebook accounts are D.T (born in 1996) and N.D (born in 1995), currently living in the locality.
At the police station, the two subjects admitted to posting false information. Out of curiosity, they found the information attractive, so they shared it to increase the number of likes and interactions on their personal Facebook accounts. Both subjects were aware of their illegal behavior, confessed honestly, and voluntarily deleted the false information they had shared.
My Duc District Police decided to fine each individual 5 million VND for providing and sharing fake information, false information, distorting, slandering, and insulting the reputation of an organization, honor, and dignity of an individual as prescribed in Point a, Clause 1, Article 101, Decree 15/2020/ND-CP dated February 3, 2020 of the Prime Minister.
