A new virus has emerged that can cause batteries to swell and even permanently damage Android smartphones.

According to security firm Kaspersky Lab, just two days after infecting a phone, the dangerous virus can damage the device.

Security researchers call this malware a “multi-purpose virus” that takes advantage of the phone’s power to mine cryptocurrency, “terrorizes” victims with a series of messages, and automatically sends SMS messages to high-cost numbers.

However, Kaspersky Lab says the malware does not have spying capabilities, meaning it does not have the ability to steal user information.

The new virus disguises itself as legitimate software and hides under 20 different types of advertisements. This means that the scope of the virus is very wide, and it can hide in many different forms.

Currently, the virus has only appeared on third-party app stores, but it is possible that it could be present on Google Play and the App Store./.
