Exhausted after 11 sleepless nights fighting the epidemic

At 9:00 a.m. on June 24, on his way from Hung Nguyen to Dien Chau on a business trip, the phone of the Director of Nghe An Department of Health, Duong Dinh Chinh, rang. On the other end of the line was the wife of Dr. Nguyen Van Long - Director of Vinh City Medical Center. She said, "Honey, my husband is exhausted!" The hand holding the phone of the Department Director trembled slightly, he was silent for a moment and then replied, "Don't worry, I will immediately send a doctor to your house to examine you."

“I feel so sorry for my brothers!” - The Director of the Department of Health said sadly. Then he immediately called the Director of Vinh City General Hospital, Nguyen Hong Truong, to direct a doctor to come to Dr. Long’s house to examine him.

In the fourth wave of the epidemic, Vinh city was the first locality in Nghe An province to have a Covid-19 case on the night of June 13. And since then, new cases have appeared every day. At this point (June 24), Vinh city has 32 cases, appearing in 8 wards and communes.

As the head of the disease prevention and control agency of Vinh city; a diligent doctor, always concerned about public health, Dr. Nguyen Van Long stayed up almost all night for 11 consecutive nights to carry out the work of organizing, implementing zoning, medical isolation, taking samples for testing, investigating and tracing...

After examination, Dr. Nguyen Van Long was admitted to Vinh City General Hospital for treatment. When arriving at the hospital, Dr. Long's health was exhausted, he had to be given oxygen, and could not speak clearly...

“Doctor Nguyen Van Long is a typical example of dedication and sacrifice for the health of the community; an exemplary image of a frontline worker fighting the epidemic. Everyone hopes for his quick recovery” - the Director of the Department of Health shared after visiting Dr. Long.

Ready to enter the long war

Faced with the complicated developments of the Covid-19 epidemic and the rapid increase in the number of cases, Nghe An province has decided to establish the first field hospital to treat patients. Hung Nguyen District Medical Center has been requisitioned and renovated to carry out this task.

According to the assignment and mobilization of the Health sector, 70/136 medical staff of Hung Nguyen District Medical Center will be assigned to work at the field hospital. The remaining staff will be temporarily assigned to work at 18 commune and town health stations to serve the primary health care for the people.

According to Dr. Nguyen Dinh Thanh - Director of Hung Nguyen District Medical Center: All medical staff of the center volunteered to join the field hospital. However, the unit will consider the conditions and criteria to choose the most suitable one.

In addition to 70 medical staff from Hung Nguyen district, Nghe An health sector has also mobilized many leading medical experts to join the field hospital to treat patients. The field hospital has a capacity to treat 100 mild and moderate Covid-19 patients.

Working at the field hospital meant not knowing when they would return home. Medical staff had to eat, live, and treat patients together. When the epidemic subsided and all patients were cured and discharged, they had to undergo another 21 days of centralized quarantine before being allowed to return home to their families.

It is expected that on June 29, the field hospital will be officially completed and put into operation. This afternoon, June 24, the female medical staff of Hung Nguyen Medical Center prepared themselves to enter the long-term battle by sacrificing and cutting their beautiful hair to be neat and agile, to spend time taking care of patients... They had to put aside the worries of life, family work, and pack up their privacy to enter the long-term, arduous battle./.
