According to the report of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue, in 2017, natural disasters in the province killed 21 people, left 2 missing, injured 15 people; 175 houses collapsed, swept away, 134 houses were severely damaged, 1,494 houses were severely damaged, 4,305 houses were flooded; damaged 57,868.28 hectares of agricultural and aquatic production area; killed 1,299 livestock, 75,897 poultry; damaged many schools, dykes, irrigation works, rural traffic and other essential infrastructure...

In Nghe An alone, 52 accidents occurred; killing 6 people, missing 4 people, injuring 7 people, sinking 9 vehicles, damaging 21 vehicles, of which the most notable were the sinking of the VTB 26 ship on July 17, 2017, the sinking of the Hong Anh 69 ship on October 30, 2017 and the running aground of the Lam Hong 99 ship on July 15, 2017. The total estimated economic damage was about 2,687.08 billion VND.
In 2017, the Provincial People's Committee allocated more than 32 billion VND from the budget to overcome natural disasters.

It is necessary to develop plans for natural disaster prevention and response for each sector, armed forces, People's Committees of districts, cities, towns, units and projects.
