Nghe An Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Duc Trung directed the overcoming of flood consequences in Nhon Mai commune.

On the afternoon of August 1, comrade Nguyen Duc Trung - Secretary of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee led a working delegation of the province to directly go to Nhon Mai commune to direct the overcoming of flood consequences and visit and encourage cadres, soldiers and people after the historic flood.

Also participating in the delegation were leaders of departments and branches: Construction, Finance, Agriculture and Environment, Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, Provincial Military Command...

Nhon Mai is a border commune established on the basis of merging two communes: Mai Son and Nhon Mai (old). The commune has 21 villages with 1,431 households; of which there are 760 poor households and 326 near-poor households.

Nhon Mai is one of the communes in Western Nghe An that was heavily affected by the recent historic flood. Secretary of the Nhon Mai Commune Party Committee - Comrade Mac Van Nguyen said that the total damage caused by floods in the commune is estimated at more than 780 billion VND up to this point.

In the whole commune, 73 houses were swept away and completely buried; 23 houses were severely damaged; 142 houses had to be urgently evacuated; 116 houses were at risk of landslides. One person who was staying in a camp guarding the fields was swept away and died by a landslide.

The flood also completely washed away the communal house, auxiliary facilities of Huoi To 2 village, Co Ha village, kindergarten, and auxiliary facilities of Huoi To 2 village. The primary school and auxiliary facilities of Huoi To 1 are at high risk of landslides. Many properties in the commune police headquarters and Nhon Mai Border Guard Station were swept away and buried.

In addition, bridges in Nhon Mai, Huoi To 1, Cha Lo, Na Kha, Huoi To 2 villages were completely washed away by floodwaters. Many sections of National Highway 16 were completely broken. Irrigation systems, power grids and telecommunications also suffered serious damage, not to mention the heavy damage to trees, crops, livestock and aquatic products of the people.

To promptly overcome the consequences, gradually stabilize people's lives and restore production, Nhon Mai commune requested to urgently survey and approve the policy of emergency evacuation and resettlement for 354 households whose houses were swept away, buried and caused landslides that endangered their lives.

In addition, promptly restore the power grid system and water works for people's daily life; build a bridge and traffic road in Nhon Mai village; build a bridge in Huoi To 1 village; repair Thanh Vinh bridge in Huoi Xa village, Cha Con bridge in Na Kha village and the traffic road connecting National Highway 16 to Pieng Cooc village; build Huoi To 2 Kindergarten; repair landslides on the negative slope of Huoi To 1 Primary School.

After listening to the report and inspecting the situation, Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Duc Trung highly appreciated and acknowledged the proactive and drastic participation of the Party Committee, authorities and forces in Nhon Mai commune in promptly deploying solutions to respond to and overcome the consequences of natural disasters; especially promptly evacuating people to safe places, ensuring the safety of people's lives and minimizing property damage.

On behalf of the provincial leaders, the Provincial Party Secretary shared the difficulties, damages and losses of the people, the Party Committee and the government of Nhon Mai commune; at the same time, he hoped that the Party Committee, the government, soldiers and people would make efforts to overcome difficulties to soon overcome the consequences of the flood, stabilize people's lives and restore production.

Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Duc Trung emphasized that in the immediate future, the Party Committee, the government, and all forces, together with the people, must focus on overcoming the consequences of the historic flood, in which the most important task is to ensure the early stabilization of people's lives, ensuring that people have all the essential conditions of food and drinking water. Families whose houses were swept away or completely buried need to be arranged safe and stable accommodation, especially the elderly and children.

For isolated villages and families, the Party Committee, government and functional forces try to find the fastest way to organize timely supplies of necessities, food, medicine and drinking water for the people.

Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Duc Trung requested communes to focus on checking landslide and unsafe areas to have measures to arrange and evacuate people from dangerous areas to safe places. Mobilize forces to clean up the site, clean the environment, restore life, ensure environmental safety and hygiene, and prevent epidemics.

Localities need to continue to review and accurately assess the damage to the people and the state. On that basis, based on the urgency, arrange in order of priority to consider support and recovery. In particular, attention must be paid to households whose houses were swept away or buried, households in difficulty, important and essential works such as roads, bridges... The province will consider support and propose the Central Government to consider support.

Currently, there are many relief and volunteer groups coming to support the people. The Provincial Party Secretary requested Nhon Mai commune to guide the relief groups to ensure safety; organize the distribution of relief equally, reasonably, to the right subjects, and promptly.

Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Duc Trung highly appreciated the sense of responsibility, efforts, and dedicated service attitude of the staff and civil servants of Nhon Mai commune. While the commune is struggling to overcome the damage caused by floods, the commune's Public Administration Service Center is still operating continuously, without interruption, meeting and serving well the people's needs for administrative procedures.
