2 death sentences for transnational drug ring

(Baonghean.vn)- On the morning of September 12, the Provincial People's Court tried a case of illegal transnational drug trafficking and transportation, sentencing two to death; one to life in prison and a female to 20 years in prison.

Because he knew a Laotian named Lau, Nguyen Quoc Khanh (born in 1960), residing in Thanh Duong commune, Thanh Chuong, had the idea of ​​buying drugs from Laos to Vietnam to satisfy his addiction and sell them to pay off his gambling debt. Khanh agreed with Lau to buy 2kg of crystal meth for 47,000 USD. Lau hired Ha Ba Hua (born in 1989), residing in Ta Ca, Ky Son, to lead the way to bring drugs from Laos to Vietnam for 10 million VND.

On August 17, 2014, Khanh and Nguyen Thi Luat (born in 1995), residing in Nghi Phu commune, Vinh city, went to Thanh Thuy border gate (Thanh Chuong) to get the goods. After the transaction was successful, Khanh drove downstream. On the way, Khanh received a phone call from Lau informing him that there was not enough 2kg of crystal meth as agreed, but only 20 heroin cakes and 400g of crystal meth, and told Khanh to take the 20 heroin cakes to Quang Ninh to deliver to Lau's acquaintance to get the money back.

After bringing the drugs to Vinh City, Khanh and Luat hid them and tried to take them to Hanoi to sell in Quang Ninh. On the morning of August 19, 2014, Khanh handed over the drugs to Cu Minh Tuan (born in 1985), residing in Vinh Tan Ward, Vinh City, to transport them to Hanoi.

Because he owed Khanh 20 million VND, Minh agreed. On the evening of August 19, 2014, when Tuan transported the heroin to Dien Thinh commune, Dien Chau district, he was discovered and caught red-handed by the authorities. The remaining subjects were also arrested later.

Nguyen Quoc Khanh and Nguyen Thi Luat were prosecuted for illegal drug trafficking; Ha Ba Hua and Cu Minh Tuan were prosecuted for illegal drug transportation.

Differentiating the role, position, and level of crime of each defendant in the ring, the People's Court sentenced Nguyen Quoc Khanh and Cu Minh Tuan to death; Ha Ba Hua to life in prison; and Nguyen Thi Luat to 20 years in prison.
