57,000 people's information exposed because of fake U23 Vietnam Fanpage
According to incomplete statistics, about 57,000 people have revealed their account information and personal phone numbers when following and sharing the fake U23 Vietnam Fanpage.
After the impressive victory of the Vietnam U23 football team since the semi-final match of the AFC U23 Championship 2018, a series of accounts impersonating the team's players and coaches have appeared on Facebook. Following the trend in recent days, bad guys have continuously created fake personal pages and pages of the players and the Vietnam U23 men's football team.
According to information posted on the WhiteHat security forum (of Bkav), recently there was a fake Facebook fanpage impersonating the U23 Vietnam team. Not only "baiting" for likes and followers, this fanpage also shared fake information about "giving each fan a calendar with a group photo and all the signatures of the delegation members, with the stamp of the tournament organizing committee".
In the post giving away the Vietnam U23 calendar, the bad guy also asked fans to comment their full name, phone number, address, and to press the Like button and share the fanpage. According to initial statistics, 27,000 people followed the above requests; then it quickly increased to 57,000 people and shows no signs of stopping.
The WhiteHat.vn forum administrator said that this poses a very high risk of information security loss when Facebook users have sent their personal information. From here, bad guys can take over weakly secured Facebook accounts and then conduct fraud by asking friends to buy scratch cards for them or receive money online. In addition, users can have their information sold to advertising services, receive text messages/calls to offer real estate services, insurance...
Accordingly, WhiteHat recommends that users need to be warned against fake news on Facebook. If users encounter fake pages, they can report them to Facebook for handling.
