Before deciding to get pregnant, women should get a booster shot of vaccines against measles, mumps, rubella; chickenpox; whooping cough; seasonal flu...

There are many infectious diseases that can occur in the period immediately before and during pregnancy; some of which are completely preventable by vaccination. In addition, in this group, the immunity acquired through basic vaccinations at birth has begun to decline significantly, increasing the risk of infection and reducing the concentration of antibodies passed to the baby during pregnancy. In the first months after birth, the baby is protected by antibodies passed from the mother.

Women should get a booster vaccination before becoming pregnant.

Therefore, women need to be carefully prepared before deciding to have children.

Below are the vaccines that women should get before getting pregnant according to the Vaccine Recommendations for all ages in Vietnam:

Measles-mumps-rubella

Contracting rubella during pregnancy, especially in the first 3 months, can lead to miscarriage or birth defects.A booster dose may boost immunity in women entering childbearing age, passing antibodies to newborns.

Diphtheria-pertussis-tetanus

Women should get booster shots to prevent diphtheria-pertussis-tetanus before pregnancy to create immunity for the mother, and at the same time pass passive antibodies to the baby to protect the baby in the first months after birth.

Hepatitis B

The primary hepatitis B vaccination schedule should be completed for those who have not received a full course of vaccination or a booster dose given if one has been given.

Chickenpox

A complete varicella vaccination schedule should be given to those who have not been fully vaccinated or a booster dose if fully vaccinated to prevent the disease for women before pregnancy. This is also to immunize the mother against the disease, and at the same time to transfer passive antibodies to the baby to protect the baby in the first months after birth.

Seasonal flu vaccine

A booster shot of the seasonal flu vaccine should be given each year before the flu season. This is a very common disease and can affect the fetus if the mother contracts the flu during pregnancy, especially in the first 3 months.

HPV vaccine

The purpose of preventing HPV infection that causes cervical cancer and HPV-related diseases such as anal ulcers, genital ulcers, etc. This vaccine includes 3 doses for adolescent girls and young people (from 10-25 or 9-26 years old).

Vaccines are an effective medical tool, currently there are nearly 30 infectious diseases that can be prevented by vaccines. In order to provide basic information on vaccination schedules and instructions on vaccine use, the Vietnam Preventive Medicine Association in collaboration with professional associations has developed Recommendations for the use of vaccines for all ages in Vietnam. The book consists of 6 parts, with content on vaccination schedules, recommendations for vaccine use for special subjects, monitoring and handling of post-vaccination reactions...
According to Professor Trinh Quan Huan, Chairman of the Council of Vaccines and Medical Biologicals, vaccines not only help prevent diseases for children but also help protect the health of adults, such as vaccines against flu, meningococcal meningitis, liver cancer, cervical cancer, etc.
