7 years in prison for anti-state propagandist
On the morning of November 27, the People's Court of Ha Tinh province sentenced defendant Nguyen Van Hoa, pen name "Con kien con", to 7 years in prison for "Propaganda against the Socialist Republic of Vietnam".
Defendant Nguyen Van Hoa (born in 1995, residing in Ky Khang commune, Ky Anh district) was prosecuted for the crime of "Propaganda against the Socialist Republic of Vietnam" under Clause 1, Article 88 of the Penal Code.

According to the indictment, since 2013, Nguyen Van Hoa has created the Facebook page “Nguyen Van Hoa (Maria Luygonjaga)” to share and disseminate articles, videos, and images with provocative content, distorting the truth, and propagating reactionary arguments, contrary to the guidelines and policies of the Party and State.
The purpose is to incite people to gather and protest after the marine environmental incident and flooding in Nghe An, Ha Tinh, and Quang Binh.
From 2014 to January 2015, Nguyen Van Hoa used the blog “Luoishoa” to post and disseminate documents containing propaganda, distortions, and defamation of the government, and spread false news and fabrications to cause confusion among the masses.

The content of these documents was copied and distributed by Nguyen Van Hoa from articles written by other hostile subjects; some images, documents, and videos were written, filmed, photographed, or edited by the subject himself under the pen name "Con kien con" and sent to foreign newspapers and radio stations for further dissemination.
According to documents from the prosecution agency, Nguyen Van Hoa received financial support and provision from extremist individuals and reactionary organizations at home and abroad in the amount of 92.1 million VND and 5,264 USD.
At the trial this morning, the defendant confessed honestly, admitted his crime, and asked the Trial Council to reduce his sentence.
The People's Court sentenced defendant Nguyen Van Hoa to 7 years in prison and ordered him to serve additional punishments as prescribed, and be placed under probation in Ky Khang commune for 3 years from the date of completing his prison sentence.
