9 behaviors that put Chinese people on the 'blacklist'

June 6, 2016 09:04

China National Tourism Administration has just released a clear list of things that tourists should avoid doing when traveling domestically and internationally if they do not want to be blacklisted.

According to this list, violators may be banned from leaving China for 2-5 years, depending on the severity of the violation. In fact, the 9 types of behavior listed by the China National Tourism Administration are all drawn from real and shameful incidents that Chinese tourists have caused in recent years while traveling both domestically and internationally.

1. Interfere with the operation and safety of aircraft or public transport

There have been many cases of Chinese passengers causing flight crews to panic by arbitrarily opening windows or emergency exits.

The most recent incident was when a 50-year-old woman on China Southern Airlines flight CZ3456 from Chongqing to Shenzhen opened the plane’s emergency exit, mistaking it for the bathroom door. The incident caused the flight to be delayed for several hours.

In recent years, Chinese airlines have often encountered ridiculous situations because passengers have opened airplane windows for very "unreasonable" reasons such as fear of airsickness, to get fresh air...

2. Destroying public works

Just over a month after opening, Shanghai Disneyland has become a top destination in China, but it has also been a source of chaos and confusion.

The problems come from tourists littering, trampling on trees and flowers, and some parents even let their children pee right in the playground.

3. Insulting local traditions, culture or living habits

Recently, Malaysian police arrested a 33-year-old Chinese man for taking nude photos on a tourist island in the country.

State criminal investigation department chief Datuk Salehhudin Abdul Rahman said about six men and four women were involved in the nude photo shoot.

"The suspect had visited Semporna town several times, bringing groups of Chinese tourists to dive on islands around Semporna island," police said.

Those arrested could face up to three months in prison or a fine, or both.

4. Destruction of cultural and historical relics

A Chinese teenager, while traveling with his parents in Egypt, "carelessly" carved the words "Ding Jinhao was here" in Chinese on a wall painting at the sacred Luxor temple.

Ding Jinhao's actions sparked a wave of criticism on Weibo and Sina in China. Most people expressed their dissatisfaction with this thoughtless and disrespectful act. Ding Jinhao's parents had to apologize for their son's actions, admitting that they had not properly educated their son.

5. Engage in gambling, prostitution, or drug use

In 2014, thousands of Chinese police raided 12 brothels in Dongguan, Guangdong province, and found many tourists there.

China Central Television (CCTV) spent 30 minutes broadcasting the scene of scantily clad women taking to the stage at a brothel in Dongguan city, while managers introduced customers to the services.

6. Threat to public safety, personal safety or property

Three Chinese passengers brought a fake gun onto a plane to take a photo. The photo immediately caused a stir on the internet. Many people called the behavior of these three young men stupid.

According to regulations of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, passengers carrying guns, knives and fake weapons are all classified as smuggling.

7. Damages the environment, breaks wildlife protection regulations, and threatens the safety of animals and plants

The above photos show a female tourist climbing Shanghai's famous cherry blossom tree to take photos.

Immediately after being spread on social networks, many people called this woman's actions "shameful" and "uncivilized".

"Chinese people living abroad are called 'Chinese pigs', while those in the country are called 'Chinese monkeys'," one netizen commented.

8. Insulting beliefs and symbols of worship

Officials in China's Shaanxi province have urged tourists to respect China's ancient beauty after a series of vulgar photos were circulated online.

The incident started with a nude statue of Yang Guifei, one of the four great beauties of China, built next to a hot spring. However, many tourists took the opportunity to take pictures with obscene actions.

In a desperate attempt, the resort staff hung a sign reading "Please take photos in a civilized manner" in front of the statue, but it was of no use, and unsuspecting tourists continued to take photos.

9. Other types of behavior that cause negative impacts

The image of a Chinese female tourist traveling in Hong Kong casually defecating at a subway station has shocked many people.

The photo was taken by a local resident named Wong at Tsim Sha Tsui station. The two were identified as Chinese because they were communicating in Mandarin.

What shocked Wong even more was that both of them seemed unashamed even though dozens of other people were looking at them.
