According to the indictment, on the afternoon of April 18, 2016, NVT went to his grandmother’s house (75 years old) to visit and ask for money, but she refused. The two had an argument. T. pushed her to the floor. Then, T. took a hammer from under the table and hit her repeatedly on the head. When she collapsed, T. took off her gold earrings and left.

Mrs. T. was discovered by relatives and taken to the emergency room with multiple head injuries. When her father asked her if she had beaten her grandmother, T. left. T. asked someone to sell the two earrings she took from her grandmother, and used one to play video games. On April 20, her family found them and took T. to the police station to confess.

T.'s grandmother's health has stabilized after being taken to the emergency room and treated. She refused to have her injuries assessed.

During the public interrogation at the trial, NVT confessed that he had been playing video games since the beginning of the 6th grade, and often lied to his grandmother to ask for money. T.’s parents and homeroom teacher also confirmed that during the past time, he had not shown any signs of psychological abnormalities, went to school regularly, and was well-behaved…

The victim also requested the People's Court to consider not imposing a prison sentence on T. so that he can continue to go to school.

The panel of judges determined that the Provincial People's Procuracy's prosecution of NVT for murder and robbery was the right person, the right crime, and there was no injustice. The defendant committed the crime when he was not fully aware of the law. During the investigation and trial, the defendant showed remorse and confessed honestly. The victim also requested the court to consider reducing the defendant's sentence. The panel of judges believed that it was unnecessary to isolate the defendant from social life and create opportunities for the defendant to study, practice, and correct his mistakes.

The panel sentenced the defendant to 2 years in prison for murder and 1 year in prison for robbery. In total, NVT must serve 3 years in prison, but the sentence was suspended. The defendant was handed over to the local authorities and his family for management and education.
