Anh Vien says goodbye to 2016 Olympics
The Vietnamese female swimmer finished second to last in the third round of the women's 200m individual medley qualifying round. Previously, Le Dung (fencing) also failed, while Ta Thanh Huyen - Ho Thi Ly (rowing) had to fight for a wild card.

Le Dung is a veteran athlete of the Vietnamese fencing team, having won nine SEA Games gold medals, but this is her first time stepping onto the Olympic stage.
The Vietnamese fencer started impressively, continuously taking a 1-0 and then 3-2 lead. However, the difference in class was quickly evident. Kim scored six points in a row to win 8-3 in the first half. In the second half, the Korean fencer scored seven points in less than a minute to end the match.
In the women's lightweight double sculls, Ta Thanh Huyen and Ho Thi Ly had to compete in a play-off for a ticket to the semi-finals.

Due to strong winds, the rowing event was only held today. The Vietnamese rowing pair competed in the second round, with opponents including reigning world champions Sophie MacKenzie - Julia Edward (New Zealand), Ayami Oishi - Chiaki Tomita (Japan), Ilse Paulis - Maaike Head (Netherlands), Ionela-Livia Lehaci - Gianina Beleaga (Romania).
There are 20 teams participating in the qualifying round, divided into four rounds. The top two teams will go straight to the semi-finals, while the bottom three teams will compete in the second qualifying round on August 9.
