Lesson for the people

This term has just finished electing another businessman whose qualifications as a National Assembly deputy have been rejected. This shows that selecting businessmen to nominate for election as National Assembly deputies is not simple.

- Recently, did you follow the "89th minute" of the National Assembly?

- Hey, the National Assembly takes care of the people's work, not playing football, so there's no 89th minute.

- I want to talk about Ms. Nguyen Thi Nguyet Huong, whose status as a delegate of the 14th National Assembly was voted by the National Election Council to be rejected at the "89th minute" before the National Assembly opened its first session.

- Everyone knows that. In two consecutive sessions, the National Election Council voted 100% not to recognize the qualifications of two people, Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh and Ms. Nguyen Thi Nguyet Huong, as National Assembly deputies. Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh's violations are clear: he was the leader of an economic corporation but caused thousands of billions of dong in losses, and used a blue-plate car that was not in accordance with the law. The violations lasted for many years, but Mr. Thanh was still covered up to hold many important positions and was introduced as a candidate for National Assembly deputies. As for Ms. Nguyen Thi Nguyet Huong, an educated and successful businesswoman, everyone thought that being a National Assembly deputy was worthy. Who would have thought that it was not until the "89th minute" that she was discovered to have violated the law, being a Vietnamese citizen but holding foreign nationality.

- With violations like those two, it is right not to recognize their status as National Assembly delegates, there is nothing to discuss.

- The problem is how to learn lessons from these two unfortunate cases.

- What do you think is the lesson?

- For Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh, that is a lesson in personnel management. If the General Secretary does not give instructions and the Central Inspection Committee does not intervene, Mr. Thanh's violations will still be covered up by interest groups, and he will still be a National Assembly delegate. For Ms. Nguyen Thi Nguyet Huong, that is a lesson in introducing businessmen as representatives of the people.
