Giant landfill located in the middle of Kim Son town cemetery (Que Phong)
(Baonghean.vn) - Although it is a spiritual place, in the Kim Son town cemetery for a long time there has been a garbage dump, gathering all kinds of waste and burning it with smoke. This makes local people, especially families with relatives buried here, upset.
This cemetery is located in Dong Son block. The garbage dump is open in the middle of the cemetery, always emitting billowing smoke.

Because it is just a primitive landfill, without a landfill, and is processed manually by burning, this area always emits a strong stench. Every day, buffalo and cows often come to the landfill to look for food, in addition, some people also come here to collect plastic and steel to sell as scrap.
Mr. Tran Quoc Viet - Head of Dong Son block, Kim Son town said: This landfill is located right between 2 hills of the town cemetery. Although people have expressed their opinions many times, it has not been resolved yet. On hot days, due to burning garbage, the smoke and stench are very strong, on rainy days, the wastewater from the landfill flows out everywhere. The saddest thing is that every time I go to burn incense and see the graves of my relatives and family lying next to the landfill, I feel very sad.![]() |

Currently, on average, every day, 6-7 tons of garbage from Kim Son town residents are gathered here by the environmental service unit. Although the environmental service unit itself is very reluctant to dump garbage in the middle of the cemetery, because there is no other place, they still have to do it.
Mr. Hoang Trung Cuong - Chairman of Kim Son Town People's Committee shared: This is the most pressing issue of the town for many years. Currently, the locality can only wait until the new landfill is completed to clear the old landfill, returning the spiritual space tocemeteryof the town.

Faced with the serious pollution caused by the landfill in the middle of Kim Son town cemetery, in 2011, the Provincial People's Committee approved the decision to build a waste treatment site in Que Phong district. By 2013, the project had started construction in Bon village, Tien Phong commune (now Kim Son town), with a total investment of nearly 55.5 billion VND, on an area of nearly 20,000 m2. However, after a period of implementation, digging and filling a number of burial pits and earth dams... from 2015 until now, this project has been shelved.

Ms. Vi Thi Duyen - Director of the Construction Investment Project Management Board of Que Phong district said: The project to build a waste treatment site in the district is a very urgent project for the locality. The capital for this project is taken from the province's excess budget, however, due to the lack of capital allocation in recent years, the project has not been completed.
Ms. Duyen also said that on the total area of nearly 46,000 m2 of land recovered to implement phase 1 of the project, including: leveling, building internal roads - dikes and landfills, 10 households were affected with a total compensation cost of more than 1.9 billion VND.
"In the near future, the district will continue to make proposals to the province to allocate capital to soon complete the project," Ms. Duyen added./.
