Quang Thi Loan and the victim Lo Thi H. (born 1992) are sisters-in-law. Loan went to China to do business and lived with a Chinese man as husband and wife.
In July 2015, Loan and this fake husband tricked Lo Thi H. into going to China to work as a maid with a salary of 9-10 million VND. But in reality, H. was sold to a Chinese family to be their wife for 580,000 yuan. Loan received 30,000 yuan from this person, the remaining amount would be paid when H. gave birth.
While living with the Chinese family, H. became pregnant and asked to go home to visit, but her husband's family did not allow it. H. found Loan and asked to take her back to her country. Loan gave H. 1,600 yuan and a pair of gold earrings, then took a bus for H. to return to Vietnam.
After returning to Vietnam, Lo Thi H. filed a complaint against Quang Thi Loan with the police. On October 7, 2016, Quang Thi Loan was arrested. At the end of 2016, Lo Thi H. also gave birth to a baby boy.
At the trial, Quang Thi Loan confessed her crime and asked for leniency from the law. Considering the aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the panel sentenced Quang Thi Loan to 5 years in prison and ordered the defendant to compensate the victim more than 9 million VND./.
