Unlike previous years, on this occasion on the roads leading to the capitalVinh orangeIn Quy Hop, traders used to drive motorbikes and cars into the gardens to buy, but this year they were absent. In the old orange gardens, orange growers are sad because oranges have fallen all over the trees, leaving very few fruits on the trees.

Standing in front of an orange garden with almost all of its fruit falling off, Mr. Nguyen Cong Bien in Tho Thanh hamlet, Minh Hop commune said that his family has 1 hectare of 7-year-old yellow-heart Xa Doai oranges. This year, the oranges have produced a lot of fruit, but since the heavy rains at the end of September, the oranges have turned yellow, with their stems hanging off, falling all over the garden, and there are so many that they can't be picked up. It is estimated that this year's orange crop has about 80% of its fruit falling off, which is considered a failure.
"The oranges are now ripe, the family wants to sell them to recoup the cost of taking care of them, but when calling traders, they refused to buy them, even though the price was only 5,000 VND/kg. Now we don't know what to do, if we don't sell them in time, all the oranges will fall. Meanwhile, at this time last year, traders bought them for 20,000 VND/kg," Mr. Bien shared.

Ms. Truong Thi Khai, onetradersAn orange buyer in Minh Hop commune said that this year, due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, oranges are difficult to sell. In previous years, at this time, she often bought oranges and imported them to agents in Vinh City, Hanoi, Da Nang... in large quantities, but this year she cannot transport them because customers do not place orders. Therefore, although the price of oranges at the garden is very cheap, there are even orange gardens selling for 3,000 VND/kg, she still does not dare to buy. In fact, the quality and appearance of oranges this year are also worse than before.

Mr. Le Viet Minh - Director of Xuan Thanh Agricultural One Member Co., Ltd. said: It must be said that this yearfallen orangesmuch, due to the impact of recent heavy rains and pests on orange trees. The unit's orange output this year is expected to decrease sharply. Another concern is that the price of oranges is too cheap compared to previous years. Currently, the harvest of Xa Doai oranges with golden hearts, the best quality orange variety here, has entered the early harvest, but the price of picking at only 5,000 VND/kg is still difficult to sell, because traders have not been able to sell to markets outside the province.

Researching the Vinh orange growing areas in Con Cuong, Tan Ky, and Yen Thanh, it is known that many orange gardens have entered the harvest season, but consumption is difficult, leading to a sharp drop in orange prices compared to previous years. Oranges also fall a lot, leading to a decrease in orange output and orange growers losing money./.
