Since mid-November, orange garden owners in Nghe An have begun opening farms and harvesting oranges to sell to the market. According to orange farm owners, although there have been many oranges falling this year, the fruits are larger, more beautiful and of higher quality, with prices ranging from 40,000 to 50,000 VND/kg, higher than last year.
The orange harvest is expected to last for 2-3 months, so Vinh oranges will be available for sale during the upcoming Lunar New Year.

According to the statistics of the provincial Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, at its peak, the area of Vinh oranges was more than 5,000 hectares, but currently, in the province there are only about 2,000 hectares left, of which about 1,800 hectares are in the production stage. Vinh oranges are currently concentrated in Thanh Chuong, Anh Son, Yen Thanh...
The average yield for the orange area currently producing products is 21 tons/ha. In particular, many Vinh orange gardens in Anh Son, Yen Thanh, Con Cuong districts are well cared for, have many fruits, and can yield 25 - 30 tons/ha, with good quality. Thus, this year, Nghe An's Vinh orange output supplied to the market is estimated at about 37,000 tons of fruit.

To improve the quality of Vinh oranges, recently, the agricultural sector has increased propaganda, coordinated with functional sectors to support and transfer technology to farmers, especially encouraging households to expand the orange growing area according to VietGAP standards, and produce in an organic direction to improve product quality.
More than 10 years ago, on May 31, 2007, the Department of Intellectual Property (Ministry of Science and Technology) granted a Certificate of registration of geographical indication for Vinh oranges in only 5 districts: Tan Ky, Quy Hop, Hung Nguyen, Nghi Loc, Nghia Dan, with an area of over 1,681 hectares. There are 3 orange varieties protected by geographical indications for Vinh oranges: Xa Doai, Van Du, Song Con. On October 16, 2019, the Department of Intellectual Property issued Decision No. 5004/QD-SHTT on amending the certificate of registration of geographical indications for Vinh oranges. Accordingly, there are 60 communes of 10 districts and towns: Yen Thanh, Nam Dan, Nghi Loc, Tan Ky, Nghia Dan, Quy Hop, Nghi Loc, Thanh Chuong, Con Cuong and Thai Hoa town with a total area of up to 5,214 hectares. The orange variety certified with additional geographical indications is V2 orange. In 2017, Vinh orange products were officially given electronic traceability stamps.
