Nghe An Newspaper on the journey to fulfill the mission of revolutionary journalism

Up to now, the Vietnamese revolutionary press has had a century of glorious fighting, always accompanying the country and the people, worthy of being the pioneer force on the ideological and cultural front. On that journey, Nghe An Newspaper with a history of nearly 64 years has made outstanding contributions to the cause of fighting for national liberation, building and defending the homeland.

Recognizing the important role, nature and position of press work on the political and ideological education front in the new revolutionary period, on November 10, 1961, the Party Executive Committee of Nghe An province issued Resolution No. 175 to establish the Editorial Office of Nhan Dan Nghe An Newspaper, approved the list of editors and reporters, appointed comrade Nguyen Kim Ban - Head of the Propaganda Department to concurrently hold the position of Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper and comrade Nguyen Huong to hold the position of Editor-in-Chief with a total initial staff of 9 people.

The editorial office of Nhan Dan Nghe An Newspaper was established, taking on the task of propagating and disseminating the Party and State's guidelines and policies, reflecting and highlighting typical collectives and individuals on the front of production, construction, strengthening national defense, security, culture, education, taking care of people's health, material and spiritual life, and presenting experiences of Party and mass organization work in the new period.

During the same period, the Western Nghe An Newspaper was also established, which was the mouthpiece of the Western Steering Committee, headed by Comrade Lu Hung - Deputy Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department, Head of the Western Propaganda Department; Comrade Dang Loan as Editor-in-Chief, Comrade Kieu Thanh Vinh as Editorial Secretary, Mr. Ho Kim Tuan as Editor. Reporters and staff included To Quoc Bao, Lang Phuoc, Nguyen Van Minh, Nguyen Hung Son, Lang Thi Hanh, Lo Thi Nhan, and Tran Van Thong.

At the end of 1967, the Western Nghe An Newspaper merged into the People's Nghe An Newspaper, later called Nghe An Newspaper. The staff and reporters of the Western Newspaper created a special page with the same content and format as before and changed the name to Mountainous Nghe An.

Born and matured during the resistance war against the US to save the country, Nghe An Newspaper focused on reflecting the labor, production and fighting movements of the army and people in the province, bringing readers hot news on all fronts. In particular, reporters always stayed at the key points of fierce bombing by US aircraft such as Ben Thuy Ferry (Vinh City), Cam Bridge (Nghi Loc), Truong Bon (Do Luong), Hoang Mai Station (Quynh Luu) ... and "fire coordinates" on important traffic routes to promptly get hot news, contributing to encouraging the fighting spirit of the army and people in the province.

In extremely difficult and deprived working conditions and circumstances, even at the risk of sacrificing their lives, the collective Editorial Board and Party Committee of Nghe An Newspaper encouraged cadres, reporters and employees to overcome all challenges and hardships, to care for and love each other, creating strength and determination to complete the task.

Through training and challenges during the fierce war of destruction, the team of editors and reporters has matured in political courage, gained experience in war reporting and especially in increasingly improved journalism skills. Long-term investigative genres, addressing issues with wide-ranging leadership and profound influence have been successfully expressed by many reporters with interest and passion.

During about 15 years (1976 - 1991), implementing the policy of merging provinces, Nghe An Newspaper merged with Ha Tinh Newspaper to form Nghe Tinh Newspaper. During this period, Nghe Tinh Newspaper closely followed the policy, guidelines, and propagated the successful implementation of the Resolution of the Party Congresses at all levels, vividly reflecting the revolutionary action movement of the entire people.

The period from 1991 to 2011 is considered a 20-year journey of press innovation for the cause of innovation of the country and homeland. At the end of August 1991, after the policy of the Politburo, the National Assembly, and the Government allowed Nghe Tinh province to split into two provinces, Nghe An and Ha Tinh, Nghe Tinh Newspaper was also split into Nghe An Newspaper and Ha Tinh Newspaper. At this time, the main team of reporters ofNghe An NewspaperThere are only 9 people, not many in number but everyone tries their best to ensure the requirement of comprehensively reflecting the issues and topics of life.

In difficult conditions and lack of means, Nghe An Newspaper still adheres to the requirements, content, goals and political tasks set forth by the Provincial Party Committee. The ideological themes focused on in the newspaper issues are: Reflecting and summarizing the emulation movement of cadres, party members and people of the province, striving to stabilize and develop the economy, ensuring social activities, maintaining political stability, strengthening social order and safety, bringing Nghe An out of stagnation and making progress.

Along with the printed newspaper published decades ago, from the Nghe An electronic newspaper project built in 2002, on January 2, 2008, Nghe An electronic newspaper officially came into operation. Nghe An electronic newspaper is considered an extension of the printed newspaper. Through this channel, Nghe An people or friends far away, even abroad, can update useful information from Nghe An, Uncle Ho's hometown.

In short, during this period, Nghe An Newspaper has closely followed the Resolutions to propagate and bring the Resolutions into life in a lively and creative way; the Newspaper reflects the new life, the new people truthfully and sharply, actively praising new factors, advanced models; fighting against corruption, negativity, waste, bureaucracy, always ensuring orientation, honesty and fighting spirit. Nghe An Newspaper has properly implemented the principles and purposes of being the voice of the Party, the Government and the forum of the people of Nghe An.

From 2011 to present, Nghe An Newspaper continues its journey of innovation, closely following the requirements and tasks of each period to effectively carry out propaganda work and orient public opinion. During this period, readers have witnessed the remarkable and continuous progress of the Newspaper, from the content of reflection to the way of expression and presentation in both print and electronic newspapers. Along with that is the recognition of achievements from all levels and sectors, notably being awarded the title of Labor Hero in the innovation period by the State (in 2015).

In 2023, Nghe An Newspaper will continue to implement the Project "Improving the comprehensive quality associated with digital transformation of Nghe An Newspaper in the period of 2022 - 2027, with a view to 2030", with the goal of gradually becoming a multimedia, multi-platform press agency. Nghe An Newspaper's publications continue to affirm their leading position in the local Party newspaper system.

In particular, the Nghe An daily newspaper and the Mountainous - Weekend Special Page continue to innovate content and form by arranging and setting up special pages and columns to be increasingly stable and sharp; expanding the team of collaborators to increase the quality and diversity of information on the newspaper,...

Nghe An Electronic Newspaper (baonghean.vn) continuously updates new, modern features, new attractive sections, regularly upgrades to the new CMS version which is modern, convenient, and user-friendly. In particular, the Newspaper has implemented two data journalism pages, namely "President Ho Chi Minh with his homeland Nghe An" and "Nghe Tinh Soviet Climax", which are highly appreciated by readers, colleagues, and superiors.

Nghe An Newspaper channels on social networks continue to develop strongly with the view that wherever there are Nghe people, there is Nghe An Newspaper. In particular, the Nghe An Newspaper Podcast channel has gradually affirmed its quality, meeting the needs of listeners near and far. After a trial period, from March 2023, the Podcast section has stepped up production, increasing both quantity, duration and quality, ensuring regularity and continuity, creating listening habits for listeners and increasing brand recognition of Nghe An Newspaper on the Spotify platform.

The Nghe An Newspaper Fanpage has developed strongly with rich content, each month the page has more than 3.6 million visitors. The Nghe An Newspaper TV channel continues to operate effectively, producing hundreds of programs, reports, news, and articles of good quality. The above mentioned multimedia publications have carried out the task of distributing the contents of Nghe An Newspaper to the target readers. On average, each month, tens of millions of readers access, view, listen and read the news and articles of Nghe An Newspaper on digital platforms.

With these efforts, Nghe An Newspaper is always ranked among the top in terms of maturity in digital transformation of newspapers nationwide and continuously.leading Party newspapersLocal by number of visits. Thus, with a journey of nearly 64 years of construction and growth, Nghe An Newspaper has constantly strived and been creative in carrying out the task of propaganda and orienting public opinion, worthy of being the mouthpiece of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee. Implementing the policy of streamlining the organizational structure, from July 1, 2025, Nghe An Newspaper will merge with Nghe An Radio and Television Station to form Nghe An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station.
