(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of March 11, in Que Phong, a conference was held to strengthen forest management and protection and forest fire prevention in the border area between Que Phong (Nghe An) - Thuong Xuan (Thanh Hoa).

This is an activity to implement the Coordination Regulation between the People's Committee of Que Phong district (Nghe An) and the People's Committee of Thuong Xuan district (Thanh Hoa).

Que Phong and Thuong Xuan have over 62km of bordering forest, most of which is under the management of Pu Hoat Nature Reserve and Xuan Lien Nature Reserve. Thanks to the good implementation of the Coordination Regulations in Forest Management and Protection, the government and relevant agencies have strengthened their direction and regularly mobilized forces to coordinate patrols, inspections and sweeps in key areas.

In 2015, the two sides organized 3 joint patrols and inspections, discovering 10 exploited trees; inspected and handled 5 cases of forestry law violations in the border area, confiscating nearly 7m3Sawn timber of all kinds, 1,100 bamboo trees, 5.5 tons of reed, fined 12 million VND; paid to the state budget nearly 18 million.

However, this is still a potential area, prone to illegal exploitation of forest products as well as a high risk of forest fires; the situation of some households from Vin and Bat Mot villages, Thuong Xuan district (Thanh Hoa) encroaching on Thong Thu commune (Que Phong) is still happening and has not been completely resolved.

In 2016, in addition to directing functional units to continue to develop a work program to effectively carry out the tasks of forest management and fire prevention in the border area, the two sides discussed finding appropriate solutions to completely resolve the phenomenon of forest land encroachment in the area of Vin and Bat Mot villages bordering Can Liem villages, Thong Thu commune (Que Phong) and Tuc villages, Dong Van commune (Que Phong) bordering Hon Mong, Yen Nhan commune (Thuong Xuan, Thanh Hoa).
