"I begged but my father did not forgive me. He forced me to lie face down and beat me, even bringing a knife to threaten to kill me," Hai said. He added that every time he beat me, my father locked the door and locked me in the house so no one knew what happened.
This afternoon, Hai and his mother were invited by the Van Noi commune police to come to the headquarters to give statements.
Mr. Tran Tuan Long (Hai's father) admitted that because his son had not studied hard recently, he "used a whip to hit him a few times". There was also a time when he threatened him with a knife to keep him from being spoiled. "The information that I have abused my son for many years is not true. I only hit him a few times when I was angry to discipline him. The bruises on his body were not all caused by me, but were boils," said Mr. Long.
He said he had received a notice from the commune police calling him in for questioning, but he was away and had just returned home and would report back later. "I sincerely apologize for beating my child and clarify the incorrect information. Beating my child is painful, not fun," the man said.
