The 6am news on May 20 from the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control said that Vietnam has had no Covid-19 cases in the community for 34 days. The health of the male pilot patient (Patient 91) has shown signs of improvement, testing negative for SARS-CoV-2 five times in a row and is about to be transferred to Cho Ray Hospital for further treatment in intensive care.

Total cases:From 6:00 a.m. April 16 to 6:00 a.m. May 20: 34 days have passed, Vietnam has protected the initial results in the fight against the Covid-19 epidemic, with no cases of community transmission.

- As of 6:00 a.m. on May 20: Vietnam has a total of 184 imported cases that were immediately quarantined.

- From 6:00 p.m. May 19 to 6:00 a.m. May 20: 0 new cases.

Number of people in quarantine:Total number of close contacts and people entering from epidemic areas being monitored for health (quarantined): 7,945, of which:

- Concentrated isolation at hospital: 331

- Centralized quarantine at other facilities: 5,187

- Isolation at home, place of residence: 2,427

Treatment status:According to the report of the Treatment Subcommittee - National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control:

Up to now, 264/324 patients have been declared cured, accounting for 81% of the total number of Covid-19 cases in our country. The remaining 60 patients are being treated at 8 central and provincial medical facilities.

As of the morning of May 20, among the Covid-19 patients being treated and monitored at medical facilities, there are currently 3 patients with the first negative test result for SARS-CoV-2 virus and 4 patients with the second or more negative test results for SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Regarding the health condition of critically ill patient 91 (British male pilot)is being treated at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh City. Information at the national consultation on the afternoon of May 19 said that the patient's health condition has shown signs of improvement. The patient has tested negative for the SARS-CoV-2 virus five times in a row.

The patient's lung consolidation rate has decreased from 90% to nearly 80%. However, the patient is still not eligible for a lung transplant. Experts agree that a lung transplant can only be performed when the patient's health and related factors meet the requirements.

By the morning of May 20, the patient had spent 2 months and 2 days being treated at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh City (this patient will soon be transferred to Cho Ray Hospital for intensive care); the patient currently has no fever, and is still on ECMO for the 44th day. The patient's life is now almost dependent on ECMO.
