Secretary sets up farm, creates jobs for people who have made mistakes

Secretary "loves" doing business

Although only 46 years old, anyone who meets him for the first time is impressed by the mature appearance of Hoang Trung Thong. Perhaps the hardships of making a living have left the marks of time deeply imprinted on his face. He is originally from Dien Thanh (Dien Chau district), due to the war, at the age of 2, he followed his parents to evacuate to Que Phong. Originally a coastal person, now having to make a living in the mountains has caused his family countless difficulties.

His childhood was spent in the forest, with uncertain days of hunger and plenty. It was during these hardships that he nurtured the dream of escaping poverty by developing a farm. Thinking and doing, he started a business with passion fruit and cinnamon trees, but the economic efficiency was not as expected.

Currently, Mr. Thong's 3,200 orange trees have produced fruit.

Next, through reading books and newspapers, he found that many places grow oranges with high profits. After learning from experience and finding a supplier of seeds, he decided to invest in planting 5 hectares, most of which are Xa Doai oranges with 2,800 trees, the remaining are 400 pomelo trees. He invested in a drip irrigation system, which not only saves on labor costs but also ensures moisture for the orange trees.

More than 3,500 pepper trees have yielded the first harvest.

In addition, he also boldly studied the pepper growing model in Que Son area. Initially, he tried planting 3 hectares. However, the first crop was almost a complete failure. The reason was that pepper plants are climbing plants, so they require woody plants to grow with them, so he chose the núc nác tree as a pillar. He thought that the núc nác tree would create a solid pillar for the pepper while after a while he could take advantage of the wood exploited from the trunk to "benefit both sides". He spent more than 600 million to buy the trees, but almost all of them died because they were not suitable for the climate.

Not giving up in the face of failure, he continued to research to change the species of the pillar tree, improve care techniques and reduce the pepper growing area to 2 hectares to focus on investment. To date, more than 3,500 pepper trees have begun to yield harvests. Currently, his farm provides stable jobs for 15 local workers, not including seasonal workers.

Creating jobs for people who have made mistakes

No one does not admire Mr. Thong when it comes to business, however, what makes the people of Que land "respect" him the most is that he has created jobs for 10 workers who have made mistakes and have a stable income of 6,000,000 VND/month. According to him, "if we want people who have made mistakes to reintegrate into the community and not return to their old ways, we must create opportunities for them to work and produce and stabilize their lives."

Mr. Luong Van Son is one of the cases that Mr. Thong created conditions for him to have a job on his farm. It is known that after completing his prison term and returning to his hometown, Mr. Son encountered many difficulties, especially finding a job. In that situation, not only encouraging him with words, Mr. Thong also created conditions for Mr. Son to look after the farm, take care of his orange garden, with a stable salary. "This is a turning point, an opportunity for me to start my life over," said Mr. Luong Van Son.

Not only Mr. Son has a job, Ms. Lien (Mr. Son's wife) is also the main worker on Mr. Thong's farm.

Sharing about his bold decisions in business, as well as his "use of people", Mr. Thong modestly said, "There is nothing remarkable." However, what is easy to see is that he has overcome his own limitations to realize his dream of escaping poverty, and above all, it is his tolerance, openness, and openness to those who have made mistakes...
