(Baonghean.vn) - African swine fever is still spreading widely. In Dien Chau and Nghi Loc districts - two major epidemic areas of Nghe An province, the number of communes affected by the disease is still increasing.

* Nghi Loc: 1/3 of communes have African swine fever

On June 2, Nghi Loc district recorded two more localities with African swine fever: Quan Hanh town and Nghi Thinh commune.

Previously, Nghi Loc District Veterinary Station collected samples of sick and dead pigs at the following households: Nguyen Thi Que, Block 6, Quan Hanh Town and Nguyen Dinh Thu, Hamlet 8, Nghi Thinh Commune.

The test results were all positive for African swine fever. The two local authorities and veterinary agencies have destroyed the pigs according to procedures.

Quan Hanh town and Nghi Thinh commune are both vulnerable areas, located in the center of Nghi Loc district, in which Quan Hanh town has National Highway 1A running through it, adjacent to Nghi Trung commune which was previously affected by the epidemic, so the risk of the epidemic spreading is very high.

Immediately after the positive results, we set up 4 quarantine checkpoints around block 6 to control the epidemic. In addition to the chemicals provided by the veterinary station, we allocated funds to buy 1 ton of lime powder to strengthen epidemic control.

Mr. Dang Khac Binh - Chairman of People's Committee of Quan Hanh town

The worrying thing is that in Quan Hanh town, although the total pig herd is small, there are many small traders trading in pork, supplying a large amount of meat to the market every day, so controlling the slaughter and trading of pork throughout the town will be difficult.

* The 17th commune of Dien Chau has African swine fever

On June 1, Dien Chau District Veterinary Station and Dien Ngoc Commune authorities destroyed 8 pigs with a total weight of 576 kg belonging to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Lang's household in Trung Yen hamlet.

Previously, discovering scattered dead pigs, Mr. Lang reported to the local authorities and had samples taken for testing, the results were positive for African swine fever.

Mr. Nguyen Van Dung - Vice Chairman of Dien Ngoc Commune People's Committee said: The locality has a relatively small pig herd of over 400 pigs and 87 households. As soon as the epidemic broke out, Dien Ngoc quickly implemented anti-epidemic measures such as setting up 5 disease control checkpoints, spraying disinfectants, and banning the transportation of pigs and pig products in and out of the area.
