Drug trafficking, mother and daughter in prison
(Baonghean.vn) - On May 10, Nghe An Provincial People's Court held a first-instance criminal trial of Lo Thi Tuyet (born in 1962, residing in Luong Minh commune, Tuong Duong district), Vi Thi Nhung (born in 1993, Tuyet's daughter) and Nguyen Thi Hien (born in 1980, residing in Dien Bich commune, Dien Chau district) for the crime of illegal drug trafficking.
According to the indictment, around early August 2023, a man named Ngoc (identity unknown) made an appointment to meet Hien to order 2 heroin cakes for 120 million VND/cake. Hien called Tuyet to buy 2 heroin cakes on credit, for 80 million VND/cake.
After that, Lo Thi Tuyet bought 2 heroin cakes from a Mong man (specific origin unknown), for 120 million VND, paying after selling the goods.

Tuyet gave the drugs to her daughter to hide. On August 10, 2023, Tuyet called Hien and made an appointment to meet Nhung to pick up the drugs. At around 6:30 p.m. the same day, the drug delivery was completed and Hien returned home.
Arriving at My Thanh commune, Yen Thanh, Hien was arrested by the police with 2 heroin bricks. Based on Hien's statement, the police arrested Tuyet and Nhung.
At the trial, the defendants confessed their crimes and expressed remorse, hoping to receive leniency from the law.
Considering the case as a whole as well as differentiating the roles and positions of each defendant in the case, the first instance panel sentenced Lo Thi Tuyet and Nguyen Thi Hien to 20 years in prison each; and Vi Thi Nhung to 18 years in prison.
