Nghe An tomatoes have the highest price in the last 4 years
(Baonghean.vn) - At this time, farmers in the coastal communes of Quynh Luu district are in the winter-spring tomato harvest season. Currently, traders are buying at the field price of 15,000 VND/kg, the highest in the past 4 years.
Mr. Tran Van Mien's family in Hamlet 8, Quynh Minh Commune currently has 2 sao of Nong Huu tomatoes in the harvest period. It is expected that after deducting expenses, one sao will earn a profit of 16 million VND.
Sharing his experience in growing tomatoes, Mr. Mien said: Within 2 months from planting until the fruit ripens, growers must balance the amount of fertilizer and spray pesticides to prevent pests and diseases according to the correct technical process. Because if too much fertilizer and nitrogen is applied, the tomato plant will develop more leaves than fruit. In addition, leaves must be regularly pruned and tops must be pinched so that the plant can focus on flowering, fruiting and avoiding diseases such as downy mildew, bacterial spots, fruit spots, etc.

With scientific planting and care, Mr. Mien's tomato area can be harvested for 3 - 4 months; the yield of each crop is about 2 tons/sao.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Truc in Hamlet 2, Quynh Luong Commune also has more than 1 sao of tomatoes that are ready for harvest. According to Ms. Truc, the weather at the beginning of this winter crop was not favorable, with a lot of rain, so the plants grew slowly. However, thanks to focusing on good care and nutrition, the tomatoes still yielded quite well when harvested; each tree produced nearly 4 kg of fruit. Every 3-5 days, she harvested 2-3 quintals of fruit; the current import price for traders is 15,000 VND/kg, 5,000 VND/kg higher than the selling price at the beginning of the year.
According to people's assessment, with small production area and not as abundant output as previous years, from now until Tet and even after Tet, tomato prices may continue to increase even higher.

In recent years, farmers in Quynh Minh, Quynh Luong, and Quynh Bang communes often grow Thai, Korean, Tre Viet, and Nong Huu tomato varieties... These are varieties that yield high yields, have beautiful fruit, thin skin, and can be stored for a long time without cracking.
According to growers, in previous years, due to favorable weather conditions, the tomato production area was relatively large, and the supply to the market was abundant, so prices dropped, and at times people even had to dump the tomatoes. This year in particular, planting and caring for tomatoes has encountered many difficulties due to continuous rain, so the area of living plants is limited, and "supply" cannot meet "demand".

Currently, the commune also recommends and propagates for people to focus on preventing pests and diseases, especially preventing frost and fog to avoid damage...
Besides the increase in tomato prices, other vegetables such as cauliflower, cabbage, kohlrabi, turnips, lettuce, chrysanthemum greens, etc. have also increased significantly in price. Therefore, people are actively stepping up care work to meet market demand during the Lunar New Year, increasing family income./.
