A few days ago, a large number of dead fish appeared in Sao stream passing through Nghia Yen commune, Nghia Dan district... The polluted water source and the damaged environment made people angry and accused a large-scale pig farm of Tam Viet Livestock Joint Stock Company, located in Bai Tranh commune, Nhu Xuan district (Thanh Hoa), of discharging wastewater into the stream...
Following the reflection of the people of Lam Sinh village, Nghia Yen commune, Nghia Dan district (Nghe An) about Sao stream (also known as Ang stream or Lam Sinh stream) flowing from the mountain range adjacent to Bai Tranh commune, Nhu Xuan district (Thanh Hoa) downstream being seriously polluted, emitting a foul smell and causing mass fish deaths, Nghe An Newspaper reporters were present at the scene to record this incident. After confirming that the Sao stream was polluted, we decided to head north, to the mountainous area bordering Nghe An and Thanh Hoa, which is considered the source of the stream pollution and fish deaths. It took us about 15km from the Nghia Yen Commune People's Committee headquarters, passing many acacia hills and dense reeds, to reach the border area between Bai Tranh Commune (Nhu Xuan, Thanh Hoa) and Lam Sinh Village, Nghia Yen Commune (Nghia Dan). In this border area, from above, it is easy to see a very large farm cluster, with many livestock barns, surrounded by vast acacia hills. This is the pig farm cluster of Tam Viet Livestock Joint Stock Company, located in village 10, Bai Tranh commune, Nhu Xuan district (Thanh Hoa). Photo: Nguyen DaoIt is worth mentioning that this farm cluster is located right at the source of Sao stream, flowing into Nghia Dan land, through Nghia Yen and Nghia Mai communes. However, there is a wastewater reservoir here that was dug very roughly, located high up, without a waterproofing lining, the water is pitch black and gives off a strong stench. Photo: Tien Dong
This wastewater reservoir is located right above Sao stream, separated by a bank of earth. It is like a giant bag of wastewater blocking the source, becoming a major threat, polluting the water source. Photo: Nguyen Dao
In addition to a wastewater reservoir, we also discovered that Sao stream had been covered with a concrete dam, preventing water from flowing. Photo: Nguyen DaoIt is worth mentioning that although this stream was blocked, after a period of searching, we also discovered a discharge point hidden behind the wild bushes and below the farm. For more than 20 years living in this land, we have never seen Sao stream polluted as seriously as it is now. 3 years ago, when the pig farm of Tam Viet Livestock Joint Stock Company was built in Bai Tranh commune, right at the source of the stream, fish deaths occurred. We have also made many complaints but the matter has not been resolved. Now no one dares to use this stream water for daily activities or watering plants anymore....
