4-hour surgery saves life of patient shot 9 times

Information from Nghe An General Hospital: At 5:00 p.m. on November 23, the hospital's emergency department received a Laotian patient, Lau Ba Say, 20 years old, from Bolykhamxay province, in critical condition, with symptoms: pale mucous membranes, pain, fatigue, rapid pulse of 130 beats/minute, maximum blood pressure of 90-100 mmHg.
Through clinical examination, doctors assessed: patient Lau Ba Say had 9 wounds of 1 cm in size scattered throughout the chest and abdomen; in which there was a very dangerous location, the wound on the left anterior chest wall in the "heart triangle" area. The patient was diagnosed with multiple gunshot wound shock, chest wound, monitoring for heart wound; penetrating abdominal wound, monitoring for perforated hollow organ.
It is known that in the morning of the same day, Lau Ba Say was accidentally shot in the chest and abdomen by a gun while picking wild vegetables. Immediately, the patient was taken to the emergency room at Bolykhamxay Provincial General Hospital. After initial first aid, realizing that the wound was complicated and beyond the treatment capacity, Bolykhamxay Provincial General Hospital referred him to Nghe An General Hospital for transfer.

At Nghe An General Hospital, through CT scan and ultrasound, doctors discovered that 9 bullets were embedded in the patient's body, penetrating many organs, causing damage to the digestive system; pericardial effusion, and images of metal foreign bodies in the anterior wall of the right ventricle....so they decided to perform emergency surgery. In addition to the wound in the heart, the patient suffered from bullets that caused 1 hole in the stomach, 2 holes in the colon and splenic flexure, and 16 holes in the small intestine.
The 4-hour surgery was performed by two departments: Thoracic Surgery and Gastroenterology. After the surgery, the patient was monitored and actively resuscitated at the Surgical Intensive Care Unit. By the morning of December 4, Lau Ba Say's health condition had stabilized and he is expected to be discharged this week./.
