Germany sets record for Covid-19 vaccinations

Germany has set a record of administering around 1.1 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine.Covid-19on April 28. Bloomberg news agency quoted Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn as saying that more than a quarter of Germans have received one dose of the vaccine and about 7.5% of the country's population has received two doses.

Covid-19 infections in Singapore highest in 9 months

Singapore's daily coronavirus infections have risen to their highest level in more than nine months, with a new cluster forming at one of the country's largest hospitals and another linked to a worker at Changi Airport. There were 16 new cases in the community.

Although the number of infections in Singapore is quite low compared to the rest of Asia, infections detected from new outbreaks have raised concerns about a resurgence of the coronavirus in the country.

Thailand increases quarantine time for tourists

Thailand will extend its mandatory quarantine period for visitors to two weeks. All visitors, most of whom were previously required to quarantine for 10 days, will be subject to the longer quarantine from May 1.

Dine-in service at restaurants in Bangkok and five other areas deemed high-risk for infection is also banned.

India's infections exceed 18 million

India’s total number of Covid-19 cases surpassed 18 million on April 29, after a record daily surge of infections. Gravediggers are working day and night to bury victims, while hundreds of others are cremated in makeshift pyres in parking lots and parks.

The situation of two Covid-19 patients having to share a treatment bed in hospitals is quite common across India.

India's Health Ministry reported 379,257 new cases and 3,645 deaths from Covid-19 on April 29, the highest number of deaths in a single day since the pandemic began.

WHO warns Europe not to ease restrictions too soon

The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned European governments that easing Covid-19 restrictions too soon could lead to a resurgence in cases and potentially trigger a new wave of infections like the one seen in India.

In a recent interview, French President Emmanuel Macron said that France will begin to ease the curfew from May 19. Accordingly, the night curfew will be moved from 7pm to 9pm from May 19 and 11pm from June 9 and will be completely lifted on June 30.
